The rental went very smoothly. This is the best 15 passenger van that I’ve ever rented or any rental agency. It’s got all the electronic bills and whistles, including Apple CarPlay, sensors, security cameras, a large touchscreen with backup camera. The van is super clean and drives really easily. The owner was super nice and very responsive to my messages.
Paul's van is clean, smell free and runs great. It has Bluetooth and usb. Most importantly it fit our whole group. Pickup and drop off were a breeze.

Great truck. Looked brand new when we picked it up. Drives nicely. Would love to rent again when on island. Courtney was super responsive and very helpful. Excellent host. 🌺

Car was awesome. Owner response was reliable and quick. I would rent again without hesitation

Great ride! It was the perfect size for our large group. Thanks for the great customer service! 🤙🏻

Vehicle was great. Sanitizing wipes and step stool provided were much appreciated for my mother.

We had the best time ever renting this van! Paul was an incredible host and made it super easy for drop off and pick up. We explored the whole island in comfort and ease with 100% recommend this transit van!
Paul was a great host for our Turo experience. If we ever needed anything he was quick to respond. The van was the perfect size for my family and I during our trip to Hilo. We traveled with a party of 7 and the van had plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. The transition of picking up our Turo from Hilo airport went smoothly. His instructions to get into the vehicle were straightforward. The van was very clean. Radio connection has Bluetooth and usb/usb c connections and last but not least WiFi is also available. Paul was a great host for our trip to Hilo🤙🏽

This van was AMAZING!!! Very CLEAN and SPACIOUS. Paul is the best host, he was very quick to answer any questions that I had. Definitely a MUST rent for sure. 💯 will rent again for any other trips. Mahalo Paul 🤙🏽

Van is niceTony was alright drop us back to the airport for a ride Excellent service 👍👍
Paul’s van is clean and in excellent condition. It met my extended family’s needs very well. Pick up and return were easy.

Well, drop off was easier than pick-up. Kaua’i has a way better Turo shuttle program - but that’s not Tarek’s fault. The car was great- other than needing to pull over and clean the inside windshield, everything else was wonderful. I love this car. It’s easy drive and park. I also rented the snorkel gear from Tarek which is a nice service- even though I didn’t use it. Tarek was very communicative the whole time except one time I called him to see how to switch the rearview mirror from daytime dark to nighttime- but he didn’t know. This kept me from driving at night. Everything else was really great. I would rent from Tarek again if I ever returned.

Van was great. Would recommend to everyone. Paul was generous and give me ride back to the airport. Thank you.
From Hilo International Airport, you'll have access to some of Hawaii's most spectacular natural wonders and cultural landmarks. The Big Island offers everything from active volcanic craters and pristine beaches to historic towns and botanical gardens. Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls State Park, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park rank among the must-see destinations easily accessible by car. A luxury rental car provides the perfect combination of comfort and elegance for your island exploration, ensuring you arrive at each destination refreshed and ready to experience Hawaii's natural beauty.
Rainbow Falls stands as one of Hilo's most photographed natural attractions, where the Wailuku River plunges over a dramatic lava cave. The waterfall creates stunning rainbows in the morning mist, offering incredible photo opportunities. You'll find convenient parking near the falls, and the short walk to the viewing area makes it accessible for all visitors. The smooth ride quality of a luxury rental car ensures you arrive comfortable after navigating the winding roads through Hilo's residential areas. Additional viewing points upstream provide different perspectives of this magnificent cascade.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park showcases the raw power of Kilauea volcano and offers visitors a chance to witness active geological processes. The park features well-maintained roads leading to various viewpoints, lava tubes, and hiking trails. Crater Rim Drive provides access to multiple volcanic features including the Jaggar Museum overlook and steam vents. Your rental car will handle the park's roads with ease, though you should prepare for cooler temperatures at higher elevations and potential volcanic gas advisories that may affect certain areas.
Akaka Falls State Park features a spectacular 442-foot waterfall surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and native Hawaiian plants. The paved loop trail takes you through dense rainforest where you'll encounter bamboo groves, wild orchids, and towering ferns. The park's location along the scenic Hamakua Coast makes it a perfect stop during your coastal drive. Ample parking is available at the visitor center, and the luxury rental car's climate control will be appreciated after exploring the humid rainforest environment. The nearby Kahuna Falls provides an additional scenic highlight along the trail.
Liliuokalani Gardens represents the largest authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan, featuring traditional landscaping, koi ponds, and pagodas set along Hilo Bay. The 30-acre park honors the area's Japanese immigrant heritage with meticulously maintained gardens and peaceful walking paths. You'll find easy parking throughout the garden area, and the serene atmosphere provides a perfect contrast to volcanic adventures. The garden's location near downtown Hilo makes it convenient to combine with shopping and dining experiences in the historic district.
Mauna Kea offers world-class stargazing opportunities and breathtaking views from its 13,796-foot summit, home to international astronomical observatories. The drive to the summit takes you through multiple climate zones, from tropical landscapes to alpine desert conditions. While four-wheel drive is recommended for the final summit approach, the visitor information station at 9,200 feet provides spectacular views and educational programs. Your rental car will comfortably handle the initial portion of this mountain adventure, and you should bring warm clothing as temperatures can drop significantly at higher elevations.

No, you don't need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo. In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host's vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you'll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that's right for you. On each trip, you're covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.* In New York state, you'll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you're covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Hawaii requires a valid driver license from your home state or country, and you must present a credit card for your car rental reservation at the time of pickup. Debit cards may be accepted by some providers, though additional verification requirements often apply when using a debit card instead of a credit card. Always review your rental agreement carefully, including terms conditions regarding additional drivers, fuel policies, and any restrictions specific to driving in Hawaii.
Several gas stations operate along Highway 11 and Kanoelehua Avenue between the airport and downtown Hilo, providing convenient fuel options for your rental car. Electric vehicle charging stations are available at various locations throughout Hilo Hawaii, including shopping centers and public facilities that support eco-friendly travel. The airport area and surrounding Hilo location offer multiple fuel and charging options to keep your rental car ready for Big Island adventures.
Hawaii does not have any toll roads, so you won't encounter toll charges during your car rental period on the Big Island. This means your rental car can travel freely throughout the island without additional toll fees, making budget planning simpler for your Hawaiian vacation. All major highways and scenic routes around Hilo airport and across the Big Island remain toll-free, allowing unlimited exploration without unexpected car rental charges.
