Cel light on but owner was good about possibilities for solving the issue.

The only reason this isn’t a 1-star review is because the host himself was nice, and also offered a new vehicle, which I politely declined.

I rented this vehicle because my own car needed some new tires, and they were going to take about a week to be delivered. This vehicle, in the state I received it, needs a lot of work before it is rented out next. When I picked it up, the owner informed me of a ‘Check Engine’ light sensor issue that was caused from a car wash. After assuring me that there was nothing wrong with the car and that it runs well, I trusted and complied and started my trip.
That evening, I didn’t notice anything untoward as I only used the car to go to work and back. However, the next day is where issues began creeping up. First and foremost, I began to become aware of a mildew/mold stench from the car. After examining the car, I noticed some black spots on some of the back seats, which led me to believe that there was some mold present in the car.
Secondly, after driving the car to the store, I parked and turned off the vehicle, and the engine continued to run for about 15 seconds before ultimately turning off. I assumed that I had somehow made a mistake in turning off the car, but that proved not to be the case because over the course of the 4.5~ days I had the car, this happened about every third time I turned off the car - which leads me to believe that the ‘Check Engine’ light had some legs after all.
Lastly, I was taking my partner into her job and she went to use the sun-visor. When she pulled it down, it fell from the ceiling, only attached by a cable that runs throughout the ceiling. I assumed that we had somehow broken the clip that held it up, however after pulling over and inspecting the car for a good long while, there was no clip to be seen. Which further leads me to believe that this issue was pre-existing and either they knew about it and forgot to mention it, or a previous renter had broken it and cleverly covered up the issue.
I’m not saying that this rental was done maliciously or that this company purposely rented me a lemon, I am just documenting my experience. Once again, the owner was kind and when I messaged him about the second set of issues, he offered another car that they had on sight to use instead. I couldn’t take advantage of the offer at the time because of my job, but after the visor issue I decided that it was not worth my time to explore that avenue, and decided to end my rental early and rent elsewhere. Hopefully these issues are fixed for the next renter.
