Horrible... First of all, the host admitted to me in the app that she KNEW it was past due to get the car its yearly required Turo inspection because Turo asked her to do it an entire 2 months before I booked it. She also had an entire month notice after I booked the trip before my start date, yet never bothered to get it checked. The 3rd day I had it, the maintenance alert on the dash said it needed new oil and break fluid. The mechanic who looked at it, said it was the filthiest car he's ever seen, and asked if I never replaced the oil filter or cabin air filters, and even said the oil was "like black tar". I looked at it myself and he was right, it was so dirty and dusty it was scary. Because I was already locked in for 2 months, I paid for new filters and fluid myself, but never asked for reimbursement because at the time I felt grateful that she agreed to let me rent it for at least 3 or more months like I asked when I first booked the trip, and she said "you can rent it as long as you want", so I went ahead and kept the booking due to this confirmation, which I found out later was just a lie to keep me from cancelling/refunding the trip.
Second, she hasn't replaced her dying 12 volt battery in 7 years, even though the owners manual says it's supposed to be replaced every 2-3 years regardless of mileage, and because of it, the voltage powering everything was too low, her headlights kept going out in the middle of night-driving without any warning and I kept getting fix-it tickets, her turn signals would suddenly stop working without any warning and I almost got in an accident several times, and then having to very uncomfortably spend hours trying to not break my neck/back to keep replacing the stupid blown fuses that kept going out due to the low voltage, just so that I could drive it safely at night & have working blinkers. But it was so difficult because the fuse box for these things was below the steering wheel cramped up in a corner, not even my mechanic or guy friends could get to it because you literally have to twist & bend your neck with your legs on the ground outside, and head under this fuse box, and even then there was a 20% chance of actually pulling the correct fuse because the fuse that kept blowing was almost impossible to reach. And heaven forbid I do my duty and report this issue to the host, or she will assume the issue is not due to her own maintenance neglect, but because the driver is "putting too many miles on it" as if she seriously believes issues with constant blown fuses have to do with putting miles on it?? Ok then 👍
Then, she selfishly doesn't bother to pay to bring it to a nearby shop to get it fixed, and instead takes back her written promise of allowing me to keep it for another month, without any warning, causing me to have to stress finding another rental with little notice. All because she's "so worried" that the issues are my fault, yet won't agree to have it looked at to actually confirm this?? What's funny is, if she was "so worried" about the health of her car, then why didn't she bother getting the yearly health check, and allowed me to rent it for 2 months AFTER it's been 15 months since it had a health check??
So the entire contract (2 months already paid) I had to constantly suffer with this anxiety of voltage issues every day and too afraid to drive at night the entire time I had it. Not only this, but her windshield wipers were bad, and when I was driving back to the state Wisconsin from Illinois where the host is the first day, I had to pull over and wait for the rain to stop just so I could see.
Then she has the audacity to make me feel like it was my fault when I reported the voltage/fuze issue by saying to me "you need to turn off the car when you're not driving it" and "my car only has less than 50,000 miles on it it shouldn't be having these issues". Even though she allows 4800 miles a month in the Turo listing, funny 🤣 But I didn't even use 1/4 that amount of miles!
I needed this for at least 3 months in order to make the expensive Uber trip from the airport/Greyhound station plus flight/bus from Wisconsin to her house 30 minutes away worth it, otherwise it would have been the same price to just rent locally in my Wisconsin town for only 2 months. I just didn't have the funds upfront to pay more than 2 months at once. That's why I reached out to her only 5 minutes after booking the trip, when I still had plenty of time to cancel and get a refund, and asked if she was okay with me booking for at least 3 months, which of course she lied to keep the booking, because she later admitted that she was planning on using the car for a spring break trip for her brother and that she gets more money with short term rentals in late spring. So she literally admitted to lying to me about "keeping it as long as I wanted". So dumb!
The worst most stressful experience on Turo I've ever experienced, & I've done this at least 10 times over the past few years!
You literally crashed my car
