Host, pick up and drop off were amazing. Car is also great for an EV car too. I don’t think I’d ever rent an EV car again though, as much as not paying for gas was super helpful in saving money, I think the inconvenience of having to charge in random places wasn’t worth saving the money. If you have a charging port where you are staying than I would say it’s fully worth it though!

The car was perfect - and all the more special in manual. The engine noise behind your head from the 4 liter is unforgettable, and now that I am back home I am definitely missing it. Jonathan was easy to work with and did everything he said he would. That in itself is saying something today. I definitely enjoyed the rental and hope that it’s around the next time I’m in LA.

Who is monthly car rental in North Dakota for?

Just relocated to North Dakota

A new job in Fargo or Bismarck is a big enough change without rushing into a car purchase. Monthly car rental in North Dakota lets you learn your commute, test the winter roads, and get a feel for the area before you decide whether buying even makes sense. Stay mobile now, and keep your options open while you settle in.

Lease just ended — or just sold your car

When a lease wraps up or you've just sold your car, you don't have to jump straight into the next big commitment. A long term car rental in North Dakota bridges the gap, giving you weeks or months to weigh what you actually want to drive next — or whether you need to own at all — without a dealership rushing your decision.

Extended work assignment or traveling professional

Traveling nurses on assignment at Sanford or Essentia, project workers heading to defined sites, and other professionals on multi-month stays all need reliable wheels without a permanent purchase. For these durations, monthly pricing on Turo usually beats booking short-term rates week after week, and an extended car rental in North Dakota keeps you commuting to work on your own schedule.

Post-college or first car

Just out of school at NDSU or UND with limited credit history and a tight budget? Buying a first car often means a down payment and a loan you're not ready for. Renting a car for a month in North Dakota lets you drive what you need right now, keep costs predictable, and stay flexible while you figure out where life takes you next.

Pickup locations for monthly car rental in North Dakota

Purple squiggle

Hector International Airport (FAR)

If you're flying into Fargo for an extended stay, you can arrange a monthly car rental near the airport (FAR) and have it ready when you land. It's a practical starting point for relocations, work assignments, and other long-term plans, so you can head straight to your new place instead of waiting in a rental line.

Fargo

As North Dakota's largest metro and home to NDSU, a Microsoft campus, and major healthcare systems, Fargo draws plenty of monthly renters settling in for the long haul. A long term car rental in Fargo covers your daily commute, weekly errands, and everything in between while you get established in the city.

Bismarck

The state capital runs on government and healthcare, which brings a steady flow of professionals to Bismarck for extended stays. A monthly rental here gives you dependable transportation for the full length of your assignment or move, so you can focus on work and life rather than lining up transportation each week.

Top tips for monthly car rental in North Dakota

A little planning goes a long way before you book a monthly rental in North Dakota, especially with the state's long winters and wide-open highways in mind.

Finding the best deal

Use the duration filter to focus on monthly and long term car rental in North Dakota listings, since prices drop the longer you book. Trips of 30 or more days unlock the deepest discounts, with reduced rates also kicking in at seven and 14 days. Booking a few weeks ahead gives you the widest selection.

How to pick a car

For daily commuting across Fargo, Bismarck, and the interstates, prioritize fuel efficiency, comfort, and the passenger or cargo space you actually use. Reliable everyday cars — sedans, compact SUVs, and fuel-efficient commuters — tend to offer the best value for a monthly rental. All-wheel drive is worth considering for confident winter driving.

Road rules and conditions in North Dakota

North Dakota winters bring cold, snow, and reduced visibility, so plan for the conditions. State law requires headlights whenever you're using windshield wipers in snow, rain, or fog. Snow tires and a strong battery make a real difference in the cold, and I-94 running east to west and I-29 north to south connect the major cities.

Parking in North Dakota

For a monthly rental, look for parking that suits a longer stay rather than quick visitor stops. Fargo and Bismarck both offer plenty of street and lot parking, and downtown areas have monthly garage permits that make sense when you're keeping a car for weeks at a time. Ask about parking where you're staying, too.

Toll roads in North Dakota

Good news for budgeting: North Dakota has no toll roads. You can drive I-94, I-29, and the state highways between Fargo, Bismarck, and beyond without planning for tolls or toll accounts. That keeps the cost of an extended car rental in North Dakota simple — your monthly price plus fuel, and little else to track on the road.

Gas and EV charging in North Dakota

Gas stations are easy to find across North Dakota, so fueling up on a road trip or daily commute is rarely a concern. If you rent an electric car, Fargo has roughly 224 public charging stations and Bismarck around 66, and the state is expanding charging along I-94 and I-29 — worth checking before longer drives.

Types of cars available in North Dakota

You'll find a wide selection geared toward everyday driving in North Dakota — reliable sedans, fuel-efficient compacts, family-friendly SUVs, and dependable commuter cars. Practical, everyday makes like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia are well represented, and all-wheel-drive options are handy for winter. Match the car to your daily needs rather than chasing anything flashy.

Picking a monthly car rental in North Dakota that fits your budget

Whether you want to rent a car for a month in North Dakota or stay for several months, rentals on Turo get cheaper the longer you book. Trips of 30 days or more unlock the deepest discounts, and many listings also offer reduced rates for seven-day and 14-day bookings. About 60% of available monthly supply in North Dakota is priced under $800 per month, with a median around $1,300 per month. You'll see the total price before you book — no hidden fees, no surprise charges at the end.

Frequently asked questions about monthly car rental in North Dakota

Is there a credit check to rent a car on Turo in North Dakota?

No — there's no credit check to book a monthly car rental in North Dakota on Turo. Unlike buying or leasing a used car, you don't apply for financing or hand over your credit history to a dealership. You create an account, meet the standard booking requirements, and reserve the car you want, which makes getting on the road far simpler than a purchase.

Can I extend my monthly rental in North Dakota if I need the car for longer?

Yes. If your plans in North Dakota run longer than expected, you can request to extend your monthly rental right from the Turo app. Extending keeps you in the same car without starting a new booking from scratch, and longer trips often qualify for better rates, so a longer stay can lower your effective monthly cost.

Can I swap my car during a monthly rental in North Dakota?

Yes. If your needs change partway through a monthly rental in North Dakota — say you want more space for winter road trips or a more fuel-efficient commuter — you can end one trip and book another vehicle. Swapping lets you match the car to your life as it changes, which is something owning a single used car can't offer.

What documents and paperwork do I need to rent a car on Turo in North Dakota?

To book a car in North Dakota, you'll need a valid driver's license, a supported payment method, and a Turo account that meets the standard eligibility requirements. Everything is handled digitally in the app, so there's no stack of dealership paperwork or contracts to sign. Have your license ready when you set up your account to keep booking quick.

What kind of license do I need to rent a car on Turo in North Dakota?

You'll need a valid, unexpired driver's license to rent a car in North Dakota. A US license works, and eligible international visitors on extended stays can generally book with a valid license from their home country. Add your license details to your Turo account ahead of time so you're ready to book as soon as you find the right car.

Is there unlimited mileage car rental on Turo in North Dakota?

Many monthly rentals in North Dakota include a generous daily mileage allowance, which suits regular commuting between Fargo, Bismarck, and points along the interstates. If you expect to drive a lot, use the "Unlimited distance" filter to find listings built for high-mileage drivers. Each listing shows its mileage terms clearly, so you can compare before you book.

Can I get discounts on monthly car rental on Turo in North Dakota?

Yes. Long term car rental in North Dakota is designed to reward longer bookings. Trips of 30 or more days unlock the deepest discounts, and reduced rates also apply at seven and 14 days. Booking a longer stay is one of the easiest ways to bring down your monthly price compared with paying week to week.

Can other people drive the car I rented in North Dakota?

Yes, but every driver has to be approved first. To add another driver to your monthly rental in North Dakota, head to the Turo app and add them to the trip before they get behind the wheel. Handling it in the app keeps everyone properly covered and makes sharing the driving on longer stays straightforward.

Do I need to rent a car to get around North Dakota?

For most extended stays, yes — North Dakota is spread out, and having your own car makes commuting and daily errands far easier across Fargo, Bismarck, and the wider region. Public transit is limited outside the larger cities, so a monthly rental gives you reliable, on-demand transportation for the full length of your stay.

Is monthly car rental on Turo cheaper than leasing a car?

It often is, especially for shorter horizons. If you need a car for one to three months, a monthly rental on Turo can cost less than a lease once you account for a lease's down payment, monthly payment, and out-of-pocket maintenance. You also get transparent all-in pricing and no long-term contract, so you're not locked into years of payments. For very long, permanent needs a lease may suit some drivers, but for a defined stretch, monthly rental keeps costs predictable and commitment low.
