Full transparency, this was the most challenging car rental experience on Turo for me. The vehicle available to me required engine maintenance and the tire pressure was low as indicated by the alerts on the dashboard. Add insult to injury, the key fob, which operated initially, abruptly cease to unlock the car doors. Locked out of the car, I was stranded in the sweltering heat on a very hot day San Diego.
After several attempts to call and text the owner, who was apparently too busy to take my phone call, he finally responded. Yes, I was exasperated and intense during our conversation to the point the owner called me a “pain in the ass”. He was trying to find a resolve. Lol I guess I was baffled the owner had no idea of the dilapidated condition of the car. But it’s his car! I was locked outside of this car which was clearly in no condition to rent to customers…and was exhausted by the hot weather. Oh yeah, the key portion of the fob got stuck in the ignition twice!
Anyway, after regaining my composure, we worked out a solution - I would text him when I needed entry into the car. Hardly convenient, but it worked! Returning the car was an option, which he suggested. All of his other cars were rented out. But, ride sharing with Lyft/Uber all around the city for the remaining 6 hours until my train left seemed costly and a less efficient alternative to completing my itinerary.
I’ll chalk this up as anomaly, not the norm on Turo and maybe even for the car owner. I own the fact I was very upset as I felt cheated and hot, but I never insulted with an epithet. My apologies to the owner. Going forward, I implore you to know the conditions of your own cars before renting to people.. Thank you.

Sorry you didn’t have the best experience Charles. Not our intention obviously and we try to stay on top of maintenance but this trip slipped through. I hope next experience is a better one.
Easy communication and pick up . The car was basic and just what I needed.
