I learned during this trip to look closely at the car's tires. Not just for scratches and dents. When we got on the highway we noticed (felt and heard) a vibration that was worse when turning to the right. We pulled over and discovered that the car had two different front tires. Different manufacturers, different treads. It was probably fine for just driving around town, but not for long trips. We had to cancel the rental and get a different car. Otherwise everything else about the car was fine.
