Brakes were messed up check engine light came on and off very unsafe vehicle

Nick's response

Check engine light did come on halfway through the trip. I told him to let me know if there is an issue and we will figure out a solution. No reply and continues to drive for days. Reported that the vehicle is unsafe to drive..MINUTES before his trip end..then drives home despite being told not to...only so I had to come pick up the vehicle and he can avoid paying an Uber. The car ran and drove perfectly. The brakes were literally changed before his trip. Clearly trying to get a free trip.

I rented a vehicle through Nick and when I arrived at the pick up, he came outside said the car was fine, but Informed me that other customers have complained about issues with the brakes. He assured me that the brakes were fine that due to the weather it has caused them to get dirty and make noise but it should stop after a couple of hours so I proceeded to go on with the rental thinking that everything was okay. The next morning I leave to go run errands and the check engine light comes on. He messages me about the check engine light and ask if I could come by his house later for him to be able to fix it, I assumed that he was going to switch me into a different vehicle, but he informed me that he didn’t have any other vehicles, that he would just be fixing the issue so I agreed to come to his house and have him fix it, when I got to his home I informed him that the brakes were still making noises, he claims that they still had at least half of life and then he proceeds to look at the back brakes and sees that something was wrong, so he says that I can either contact Turo and have them switch me cars or he can order the parts for it and fix it during the reservation. He says that he could pick the vehicle up from me change them and then bring the vehicle back when it’s done, I informed him that Turo didn’t have any cars available and neither did Nick so I wouldn’t be able to be switched into a different car. I really needed a vehicle due to my very important appointments and things that I had scheduled. He then fixes the check engine light issue and the car seemed to be fine so I extended it for a couple more days and shortly after that, the check engine light comes back on again for something completely different. The car begins to have problems and starts stalling in the middle of the road so I contact Nick and he informed me again that he doesn’t have any other vehicle to switch me into so at this point I pull over turn the car off and turn it back on, the car seems to be driving okay but the check engine light is still on so I decided since the reservation was going to end in less than two days I would just keep it and not extend it any further. I try to contact Turo and they tell me that I can’t do anything about the reservation until the car is returned and check back in so I do that and contact Turo after, they then say that there is nothing that they can do about it because of the fact that it wasn’t reported to them, but there was messages about everything that was going on with the vehicle also the owner of the vehicle was aware of everything so I contact Nick and tell him that I’m not very happy about the situation that I’ve paid almost $700 for a week and a half and I had multiple issues with the vehicle. He then proceeds to say that I declined on being switched to a different vehicle which was not true, I never declined being switched. He also says he offered to fix the brake issue during the reservation but because I didn’t contact him after the parts came in to fix it he shouldn’t be held responsible for the things that I had to cancel and change due to the vehicle issues. At that point, I was highly upset and irritated because of the fact that other people have complained about the brakes so he was completely aware of it and didn’t take the proper steps to make sure they were perfectly fine. I also feel that I shouldn’t have had to take hours out of my day for him to fix this issue when it should’ve been fixed before the vehicle went out on a reservation. He says that he will try to contact Turo to see if any type of refund could be given back to me but after that I heard nothing else from Nick or Turo. I wish that things would’ve went differently, but I guess that’s not the case.

Nick's response

I am sorry that your experience was a negative one with me and with Turo. I just want to clarify. The rear brakes (which were the ones in question) were completely functional and had 50 life left. I agreed to go ahead and change them because they were grooving the rotors and made guests uncomfortable. We agreed that you would contact me at a convenient so I could come pick up the car, change the brakes and then return it. You never did. I gave you options and you decided to keep the car.
