Turo Guidelines: Prohibited Items and Activities in Rented Vehicles At Turo, we prioritize the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of both guests and hosts. To ensure a positive and secure rental experience for all, it's important to familiarize yourself with the following guidelines regarding items and activities that are not permitted in rented vehicles. By adhering to these guidelines, you help maintain the integrity of the Turo community and protect the vehicles you rent. 1. Smoking: Smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes and vaping devices, is strictly prohibited in all Turo vehicles. This policy applies to both guests and their passengers. Smoking can cause significant damage to the vehicle, leave unpleasant odors, and compromise the experience for future renters. We kindly ask that you refrain from smoking in any rented vehicle. 2. Pets: Unless explicitly stated by the host, pets are generally not allowed in Turo vehicles. While we understand the joy of traveling with your furry friends, some guests may have allergies or other sensitivities. Additionally, pets can leave behind hair, dander, or odors that may be challenging to remove. If you require a pet-friendly rental, we recommend using Turo's search filters to find vehicles that explicitly permit pets. 3. Off-Roading and Racing: Engaging in off-roading or racing activities is strictly prohibited in Turo vehicles. These activities can be dangerous, put the vehicle and its occupants at risk, and cause significant damage to the car's suspension, tires, and other critical components. We urge all guests to respect local traffic laws and drive responsibly during their rental period. 4. Towing: Using a Turo vehicle for towing purposes is generally not permitted unless explicitly stated by the host. Towing places additional stress on the vehicle's engine, transmission, and suspension, which may result in damage. If you require a vehicle for towing, be sure to search for hosts who explicitly state that towing is allowed and ensure the vehicle's specifications meet your requirements. 5. Illegal Activities: Engaging in any illegal activities while in possession of a Turo vehicle is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, transporting illegal substances, or using the vehicle for any criminal purposes. Violation of this guideline may result in immediate termination of your Turo account and legal consequences. 6. Excessive Dirt or Damage: While we understand that some wear and tear is inevitable during the course of a rental, it's important to treat the rented vehicle with care. Returning the vehicle excessively dirty, with significant stains, or with damage beyond normal wear and tear is not permitted. It's your responsibility to ensure the vehicle is returned in the same condition as it was received, excluding any pre-existing damage documented in the vehicle's listing. By following these guidelines, you contribute to a safe, respectful, and enjoyable Turo community. The Tesla in itself is not a bad one, but I will likely rent from a different company in the future when given the opportunity.
One issue that came up right away is I selected free airport delivery but when it came time to take the trip, they had switched the address to their office which is nearby but not on airport premise and I was told that I would be charged otherwise. That was resolved.
Second, we arrived to the vehicle and apparently the individual who dropped it off had lost the ticket and I was told the parking lot should be able to read the license plate, which it was not. So we had to wait 10 minutes aimlessly waiting until I happened to find the parking ticket inside of the console.
Third, the individual that dropped off the vehicle at the parking lot left their phone in the vehicle so we drove to the office to bring them their phone, which made us late to the event we arrived to AZ for, but not a huge deal.
Fourth, the steering wheel was very beat up and does not look at all like pictured. Had I known that I never would have rented the vehicle in the first place.
Fifth, when returning the vehicle, we left very early in the morning and were not able to refill it so it was left at 20% charge. The company could have offered the same courtesy extended by us when driving out of our way to deliver their phone, but they chose to charge full price, which showed me that their customer service was not in alignment with our future renting goals.
I am in AZ all the time and use Turo and this was my only poor experience. If given the opportunity, I would suggest selecting another vendor to ensure your process is more seamless.

My husband and I utilize Turo quite often. Unfortunately, this trip was not nearly as pleasant as others. First off the car is not well taken care of as the pictures. The steering wheel leather is halfway ripped off. The flexibility with this company was very difficult. The Turo booking said that the phone had the ability to lock and unlock the car for pick up that did not work. Our flight was delayed for three hours and even though we rented the car for two full days and normally there’s not an issue to extend for simply an hour ( especially with this being a company that rents multiple cars and not an individual). They denied our extension stating it was past “business hours” limiting the reason why people even book cars they can lock / unlock from the app. They advised me to call Turo if I had issues with late return fees (mind I paid for the car for 2 days, and the “extension” didn’t cost is in the app) Due to the nature of not wanting to be at the airport for hours with a delayed flight, I called Turo, it took them reaching out to the host 3x for them to finally approve our 1 hour extension….
Also the Uber rides from the airport are around $20 each so I suggest booking the airport pickup
Option or booking a car that has the free shuttle.
