This car is located in a genuinely unsafe area for night driving: a single-lane road with minimal to no street lighting, steep ditches and drop-offs throughout the route. Cell service is unreliable, and rideshares regularly take 10+ minutes to arrive. The vehicle’s headlights are extremely dim, making nighttime driving stressful and unsafe.

After discovering the realities of the location when picking the car up the night before, I requested a paid pickup for my return the following evening. The owner declined. Despite clearly communicating safety concerns related to the location, visibility, and lack of reliable service, I was told I would need to pay an additional $125 simply to keep the car overnight at my location until they were available for pickup at 9 a.m. the next morning.

As a result, I drove the car back at night in heavy rain with extremely poor visibility, then waited in the rain for an Uber with only a single bar of service.

The car itself was in poor condition. The windshield wiper and armrest were broken at pickup. The vehicle was uncomfortable, visibility was poor, and the controls were unintuitive.

It’s disappointing to see someone so willing to leverage their position and privilege to extract passive profit while disregarding basic safety, fairness, or consideration for the person assuming all of the risk. The service provided was well below what was implied or charged, and the lack of accountability speaks volumes
