The host provided clear instructions for the location of the car and for the retrieval of the keys. The car was clean inside and out. I would recommend renting from this host.

The vehicle’s trunk was not usable, it was full of car parts when I picked it up. It also smelled of marijuana when picked up. The passenger seat is broken and leaned back, cannot be adjusted, and is extremely uncomfortable to the passenger. The steering wheel was grimy. The seats were peeling. But more importantly, the vehicle brakes were grinding by the time of drop off, and when I politely informed the host - he insisted the brakes were brand new and was nasty and argumentative about it. There were discs and rotors in the trunk! I had also mentioned that we could not fit our small suitcases comfortably in the car, because we could not use the trunk without potentially damaging our luggage because of the car parts scattered around, he was very rude and said then I should have rented a bigger vehicle. For three people total with carry ons! We would have had plenty of room to simply fit our luggage in the trunk comfortably, if we could have used the trunk. I also really didn’t want to leave luggage visible in the car between driving locations rather than safely in the trunk out of view, but I had a tight schedule and a flight delay and really could not take the time to relocate another Turo. Rather than offer any small recompense or at least genuinely apologize, he was rude and hostile like I was trying to get something over on him. I took photos of the issues. I was being kind and informative because most importantly, if my brakes were grinding, I would want to know. He insisted he drove it after I dropped it off (without an individual present) and that it was perfectly fine, but there is no way that it magically stopped. I am well aware of what grinding brakes sound like, but he treated me like I was either lying or ignorant. He kept insisted that was impossible they were brand new. Well discs can slip, and I had no way to verify they were all replaced. Either way, clearly he had some brake issues that had been occurring. I wasn’t upset about that either, I was just trying to immediately inform him so that he was aware and could address it, in the event it was set to be rented again or driven. I would want to know and was just doing the right thing by letting him know what I experienced. My passenger heard it and the Airbnb hosts we were staying with did as well. I had no reason to fabricate that issue and I was shocked at the rude response. I rent from Turo frequently and have never had any kind of problem or negative experience to the extent that I did with this vehicle or host. Unfortunately I would not recommend this vehicle or individual and would not feel comfortable renting from them again.

Andy's response

Hi Jennifer! We apologize for your experience, but we did offer a one day refund for leaving the brakes in the back. The vehicle did have brand new brakes and all else in which you have mentioned we have not found to be an issue with the vehicle. Best of luck!

Car was a little sluggish and I believe the brakes were screeching a little but other than that the car was fine.
