The car got me around LA and Supercharging was easy, but this Tesla felt less like the “future of transportation” and more “held together by tape and bubble gum”
The driver-side B-pillar trim was damaged and fell off whenever I entered the car and interfered with the seatbelt, so I had to buy more tape myself. I notified the host immediately of this issue during the check in process, as the damage was extreme and very obvious, but received no response. I could not safely operate the car as is, so I ended up buying more tape just to keep it in place.
The driver’s seat also slid under braking, even the lightest push on the brake will send you forward or backwards. The car creaked loudly and seemed to need an alignment and likely other routine maintenance/servicing.
I expected some cosmetic wear from a frequently rented vehicle, but this went beyond scratches and scuffs. It felt less like a maintained Tesla and more like I had adopted a mildly haunted one for the weekend.
The lack of any acknowledgment, assistance, or attempt to make things right from the host was the most disappointing part. I just feel grateful that I got the max coverage from Turo so that none of this could be pinned on me.
The car completed the trip, but its condition and the host’s silence gave me little confidence that it is or will be properly maintained. The experience will likely be worse for each subsequent renter.
