Unfortunately, I would not book with this host again.
I booked the vehicle from September 3–7. At pickup, the interior wasn’t terrible, but it definitely could have used a better cleaning and freshening up. The vehicle itself also wasn’t enjoyable to drive. The acceleration felt very sluggish, and it seemed like I constantly had to press heavily on the gas pedal just to get up to around 55 mph and maintain a consistent speed. It made the drive feel like a drag throughout the trip.
I later extended my return time from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and was charged $71.35 for the extension. I have absolutely no issue with that charge because I extended my trip and understood there would be an additional cost.
Before returning the vehicle, I took the time to thoroughly clean and vacuum it, made sure it smelled fresh, and filled the gas tank. I also took photos and kept my gas receipt.
The return process was where my experience really started going downhill. The host specifically instructed me to contact him 10 minutes before arriving so that he could open the gate if it was closed. I followed those instructions and messaged him twice, but received no response. I waited 15 minutes before contacting Turo Support. Support suggested leaving the vehicle with the keys inside, but because this was in Downtown LA and I was concerned about the vehicle being towed or something happening to it, I refused to just leave it unattended. I continued waiting until someone finally came out and opened the gate.
A few days later, I messaged the host asking whether I had accidentally left a bag inside the vehicle. I received no response.
Then, six days after returning the vehicle, I suddenly received a $34 refueling charge from the same host who had never responded to my message about my missing property.
That was the final straw for me.
I immediately contacted Turo Support and disputed the refueling charge. Thankfully, I had taken photos of the gas level at drop-off AND kept my receipt from refueling the vehicle. After providing my documentation, the charge was successfully disputed.
My biggest issue isn’t simply that I received a charge I disagreed with. It’s the entire experience: poor communication during the return, no response regarding property I may have left behind, and then days later receiving a refueling charge despite having returned the vehicle with gas and having documentation to prove it.
I booked this vehicle because the price was inexpensive, but after this experience, the savings were absolutely not worth the headache.
If you decide to rent from this host, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take pictures at pickup and drop-off, photograph the fuel gauge, save your gas receipts, and keep all communication within the Turo app. Those things are ultimately what allowed me to successfully dispute the additional charge.
I had heard stories about bad Turo experiences before, but I genuinely never thought I would have one like this. I will not book with this host again.
