Great host and great car!!!

The car had issues from the very start, about 30 minutes after picking it up, the front undercarriage panel came loose and was dragging on the highway. The host came to fix it quickly, which I appreciated. However, throughout the trip, the rear right tire kept losing pressure, which was clearly a pre-existing issue. On top of that, the car lost acceleration on the highway 3 to 4 times, I had to pull over, turn off the engine and restart it each time to get it going again. That alone was dangerous.
A few weeks later, it broke down completely on the highway. It started smoking and the check engine light came on. A certified mechanic found a transmission overheat and a leaking differential, pre-existing mechanical issues. I was left stranded in the middle of the desert with no transportation, and I had to end my trip 20 days early because of the breakdown.
I took great care of the car throughout the trip, kept it clean, tank full, and drove responsibly. A rental car should be safe and reliable. I would not recommend this vehicle for a long trip.
To be fair, the host was cooperative and responsive whenever issues came up, and he did the right thing to help cover the repair costs. I appreciate that.
