When I arrived to pick up the car, I called the host to let them know I was there. Tracy had misread the pickup time and was already on the way to another appointment, so I ended up waiting roughly 40 minutes for him to return. Once he got back, I found out the car I originally reserved was actually in the shop for repairs and had not been removed from the available listings, which immediately put me in a tough spot.
To his credit, he did try to resolve it by scrambling to swap me into another vehicle through Turo. I stayed patient and understanding throughout this process, especially since I’ve rented from Tracy before and didn’t want to make a situation out of something that could be fixed.
Unfortunately, the replacement vehicle was in significantly worse condition than expected. The car was dirty inside and out, not fully fueled, and the AC was not working at all, which is a major issue. The backup camera displayed such a dark image that it was nearly unusable, and the CV axles were clearly worn, producing a loud and consistent clicking noise while driving. Overall, it did not feel like a vehicle that should be actively rented out.
On top of that, there were issues with the Turo swap itself. After I had already taken possession of the vehicle, the platform failed to properly process the change. I had to contact Turo support three separate times and spent over 90 minutes trying to get the reservation corrected. This was something that should have been handled and verified by the host before handing off the car, not pushed onto the renter to resolve.
Toward the end of the rental, Tracy messaged me stating he was receiving alerts that the car had exceeded 80 mph. This occurred briefly while navigating around unsafe drivers on the road, not reckless driving. Given everything that had already gone wrong with the rental, receiving a message like that felt unnecessary and inappropriate. It came across as monitoring and lecturing, rather than support, especially considering the condition of the vehicle I was given.
I went into this rental with a lot of patience and gave the benefit of the doubt due to prior positive experience, but this situation fell well below expectations across multiple areas.
