Headlights weren’t the greatest, and windshield was washed with something that caused a weird glare. Other than that great to deal with and rides great

Good trip. Car brakes were squeaky but worked ok.
The car has a new brakes. We just changed it this January. This could be from the storm. Anytime the rotors comes wet, it form rust around the surface. This is common to all cars

Maurice •
Very reliable vehicle . Host was great and really easy to work with. Will definitely use again in the future . Thanks for making our trip a success .

To preface, our trip went well overall—we did not have any mechanical issues with the vehicle. Leading up to the trip, all communication with the host was great. We picked up the car off-site rather than at the airport. For anyone deciding between airport or off-site pickup, I’d recommend saving the money and choosing the off-site option. It was roughly a 10-minute walk to the car. Once we arrived, pickup was smooth and the car was clean.
Vehicle issues:
This was our first time using Turo, so some of this may be normal. I also understand that it must be difficult constantly repairing damage from different renters. That said, the vehicle was in fairly rough shape, with significant body damage that should be well documented before driving off. We noticed the brakes were squealing, which was somewhat alarming. Additionally, the braking felt inconsistent—sometimes very sensitive, other times more normal.
The interior was in relatively good condition, though it did show noticeable wear for the vehicle’s age. We understand the car is likely used frequently for driving through the mountains of Maui, so some wear on the brakes is expected. However, the noise raised concerns that they may have been worn and not properly addressed.
Host feedback:
We arrived in Maui late, around 10:00 PM. The host had the vehicle ready and was willing to answer the phone after hours to help us access it, which we appreciated. Overall, communication leading up to the trip was excellent. Like many people in Hawaii, the host was very friendly.
However, this brings me to our biggest issue with the entire experience. Our trip was scheduled to end at 2:30 PM, and we had a flight from Maui to Kona shortly after. I dropped the car off at 2:01 PM, following the host’s instructions. At the lot, there were two individuals who appeared to be staff, and they directed me where to park. I took photos of the car at 2:01 PM—about 30 minutes early.
Shortly after, between 2:15 and 2:30 PM, I messaged the host confirming the vehicle had been returned. Everything seemed fine. The host read the message at 2:45 PM and thanked us, and we continued on with our vacation.
Approximately three days later, I received an email (which went to my junk folder) from Turo stating that I had returned the vehicle three hours late. As a result, I was charged for an additional day and a late fee totaling just under $100 USD (about $140 CAD). This was incorrect, and I was forced to open a dispute with Turo. Even if there had been some misunderstanding, the host never reached out to clarify the situation.
Thankfully, Turo handled the issue promptly, and I will be refunded within the next two weeks. However, this situation should never have occurred in the first place.
Ryan never check out properly. We never charge them for a late fee. This is Turo automatically charging guest about the late charges not us. We didn't even report this as a late return
