Overall pretty bad experience with this car, but largely due to the host.
Upon pickup, the car was in decent condition inside and out, but had multiple gas-station air fresheners inside, which were extremely overwhelming and the smell did not go away after multiple days with the car.
Futhermore, the pictures on the posting do not accurately represent the car. The interior photos show that the car has the Bowers & Wilkins "Diamond Surround Sound System", but this car did not have that. I told the host about this, and he said they used stock images from BMW for the interior shots and thanked me for pointing it out so he could fix it. This has still not been changed on the posting at the time of writing this review (10 days after the end of my reservation).
Ultimately though, the biggest problem I faced was a tire pressure issue upon pickup that required me to fill up one of the tires immediately after checking in (I found out later that the issue was due to a cracked wheel, which caused a slow leak). The host told me I could meet up with his employee to fix the problem, and they confirmed that the tire did not have a nail or any other obvious/visible issue with the tire, so I was sent on my way after the brief inspection.
The next day, the tire was low again (19 PSI, should be 37 PSI), so I topped it off at a gas station again, and let the host know it was still having a problem. The host called me an hour later and asked what I expected him to do about it. I asked if he could fix the tire or switch for another car, and he said he could fix it in the morning. Despite the frustration and inconvenience, I said that was fine, assuming they would follow up with me to coordinate a fix.
I did not hear back from the host the next morning and I messaged around noon to see how I should proceed. They said they were planning to reclaim the car early (day 3 of 5) and offered to book me in a different car, though at an exorbitant rate (an Urus for $1300/day. No offer to switch out for anything that accounted for what I already paid, or even at a modest uplift). After speaking on the phone, I agreed to drive the car back and pick up a "loaner" car while they fixed the tire. After filling up the tire again, I set off from where I was staying, expecting to meet the host at my destination for dinner. I did not hear back for hours, despite messaging multiple times.
Eventually, he called me and asked if I would meet at his business. I agreed to do this, under the implication that I would be given a car to hold me over while this one was being fixed. When I arrived, the host eventually told me that he could not give me a loaner (for insurance reasons, fair enough) but would be keeping the car, leaving me stranded without a way home. To his credit, he tried to find me a last minute booking through some other hosts he knew, but everyone was fully booked. He ended up offering me a ride home in his own car, which I accepted.
In an effort to address my frustration, he verbally committed to granting a full refund for the trip, which I accepted as a fair remedy to the situation and figured that would be the end of this disappointing rental. A few days later, I found out that instead of a full refund, the host gave me a 5% discount for a "next booking" with his company. I had to file a claim with Turo to even get a partial refund, and I'm still fighting the issue 10 days later.
At the end of the day, I feel like I was completely mislead and ripped off and would never book from this company again. Throughout my communication with the host, he made me feel like it was my fault for raising a complaint and tried to avoid taking responsibility for the issue. With this in mind, I fully expect the host to write a response here that attempts to pass the blame to me again. Caveat emptor.
