Car had a maintenance issue, but the host was great and kindly swapped the rental with a new one within a few hours.

The car had tires so bald the wires were showing, and I had to take it into discount tires and replace them myself. they said it was dangerous to drive and would blow out in the next 10 miles or so. They did to their credit pay me back but it was time out of a very busy workday to sort it out. There was no coolant in the car during the heat dome, so I got that filled also. After the tire change the axle was no good and jerked quite hard to the right after every turn - dangerous on the highway going 65. The car isn't safe to drive as is. They didn't charge for extra miles and I returned the car with an empty tank, which i appreciated. But I wouldn't rent with them again.

The tires had only 4,000 miles on them at start of your trip. The rapid wear and steering pull were caused by a bent right control arm and bent wheel sustained during your rental-which is why issues only began 10 days into your stay.
That impact severely misaligned the suspension and ruined the tires. While we immediately covered the tire replacement cost for you during your trip, the damage occurred while the car was in your care.
