Mixed experience: Cockroach issues and dismissive responses
Pros: Kulaea hosted on short notice after another host canceled on the day of our flight. She was responsive and gave clear pickup instructions.
Cons: On our first night, we saw a large cockroach crawling inside the car while we were driving, causing us to change our plans as my wife wasn't comfortable riding in the car. A few days later, after we cleaned and inspected the car, another smaller roach appeared in the center console. When we messaged Kulaea to report the concern, her response was "Unfortunately, that's a common issue here on the island", which felt dismissive. She did offer a backup vehicle, but when we asked if it would have the same issue, she said "Ain't no telling."
While I appreciate Kulaea's responsiveness to our initial booking, I was disappointed in her response to our cleanliness/comfort concern. Normalizing cockroaches living inside any rental vehicle felt unprofessional, especially for an All-Star Host. Renters who are not comfortable with insects should use caution.
