Car itself was fine for what it was: older with some expected wear (check engine light, a few error codes, some existing damage, interior lights not working). Not ideal, but not dealbreakers on their own.
The real issue was the host’s end-of-trip instructions, expecting us to car wash, vacuum, and wipe down the dashboard with wipes and microfiber cloth before returning it. That’s not standard Turo policy and not a reasonable ask of a renter, we’re happy to leave a car free of trash or sand/mess, but detailing it for the next guest isn’t our job. Figuring this out on the way to the airport, after the trip was basically over, was stressful and not okay.
We ended up doing the car wash, vacuum, and wipe-down anyway to avoid any dispute, but it shouldn’t be expected.

Hi Evan, I appreciate you leaving it as you found it. 🤙🏽 I’m also sorry you misunderstood the message that goes out 24 hours before your return. It says that if the car is unreasonably dirty you need to clean it. I’ve had TURO renters absolutely trash my vehicles, then be shocked about a fee, so the message helps everyone prevent that.
Have a ❤️ please: TURO’s policies keep changing to pay hosts less % for doing more & more, and charges renters 3-4X what we earn. That’s what truly sucks.
