Presto is great and the pickup and drop off was seamless. If I were only rating him, it would be 4.5 stars, he was timely, communicative, and responsive.

The car was not in good shape. If the car were better, it would have been a great trip.

The hybrid battery isn’t strong and the engine components definitely show its wear for 225,000 miles. I did not know the car was this high mileage from the booking description. The suspension is old and had a constant squeak. This made for lackluster steering and control and tepid acceleration. The squeak got very annoying on any trip longer than 15 min (which was every trip).

The interior had rips and tears including a large one in the passenger seat, the volume knob didn’t work, and the exterior paint was peeling, patchy, with lots of dents and scrapes.

Overall, the car was fine to drive and I understand that it is priced as such, but it would have been helpful to know the condition of the car in the description before renting it. The expectation was of a decently cared for car, not one in such poor and shabby condition. We could have cancelled the rental, but by the time we found out at our pickup at midnight, rentals were 4x the price for a last minute booking. I had booked this trip over a month in advance to try to get the best pricing. Had I known, I would have booked a different car that was more comfortable and solid.

Presto's's response

This is a 17 year old car with some wear after being on 1000+ trips. It has been well maintained. Suspension is 6 month old. He is lying. Should not have been a surprise to Joshua since all the wear he is complaining about is in the profile photos. He failed to review the photos before booking the car. He is flat out lying about the condition of the engine and the hybrid battery. He is saying on one hand that the engine/battery had problems but somehow the car “drove fine”. Makes no sense.

Pickup was okay but the display for speedometer and gas gage has an electrical issue. As a previous owner of a Prius, I am very familiar with the dial to dim and brighten the display. The host tried saying it’s a user error and the dial was “off” but this is not true. The dial should still illuminate the speed and gas even at the lowest setting. I have photos and videos of the display being completely off regardless of this dial. When the host got the car back it did display for him but this is a known electrical problem regardless if he got it to work briefly for himself. It worked for the first two miles of my trip and then never again. I tried three separate times and upon researching this every site says the display should never be completely off. Even at the lowest setting the speed and gas should be illuminated on the dash. I used this at night and in the morning. I barely even drove the vehicle because this is a safety issue that goes against Turos guidelines. I should have been refunded and will continue to speak to the Turo team about this until I am compensated. Other than that the host had clear instructions for pick up and the car was decent.

Presto's's response

When the vehicle was towed back I quickly discovered that the dial controlling the speedometer was turned off so I turned the dial back up and the lights worked perfectly. The guest claimed to have previously owned a Prius but needed to do research to understand how the dashboard lights works?? Makes no sense. She is 100% wrong about the dial not being able to completely turn off the dashboard lights completely. A Google search can easily disprove that. This guest just wanted a refund.

Amazing host, clean car
