The car itself was exactly what I expected for a budget vehicle. It was an older Mitsubishi Mirage, and it ran well throughout my trip without any mechanical issues. It was also affordable, which I appreciate.
My disappointment was with the host, not the car.
Turo rentals are for 24 hours. I accidentally selected a return time of 10:00 PM instead of 11:30 PM, which was still within my original 24-hour rental period. I submitted a request through the app to correct the return time to 11:30 PM, but the host refused to approve it. I have rented around 10 cars on Turo before, and every other host has been flexible with this type of request. This was the first host who was unwilling to help, even though the request was reasonable.
Because of that, I had to cut my plans short and spend extra money to return the car earlier and then travel back, which was very frustrating.
The communication also felt very impersonal. The host seemed more like a robot than someone trying to help a customer. I was even mistaken for someone from Ecuador and was asked to upload both my driver’s license and passport, which felt excessive.
Finally, although the listing says the car may not be professionally cleaned, the vehicle was much dirtier than expected. It had a significant amount of sand inside, as if it had just come back from the beach.
Overall, the car did its job, but the customer service and lack of flexibility from the host made this a disappointing experience. That’s why I’m giving 3 stars.
