Host extremely responsive and helpful. What a lifesaver after I had a situation with a different Toro rental. I’m so thankful and would definitely rent from you again.

The pickup process and the host were both great. However, I had several issues with the vehicle during the trip. The car would not charge properly — I tried three different charging stations, and the vehicle would not connect at any of them. Someone at one of the stations even tried to help me, but we still could not get it to work. Because of this, I unfortunately had to rely on gas.

The gas range is less than 70 miles, so I had to stop constantly to refuel. I drove from the airport to Concord, and it became very inconvenient. Another issue was that the phone connection only works with the older cable type, and there was no adapter provided. Also, the vehicle only seemed to charge at Electrify America stations and was not compatible with Tesla chargers. Here in Miami, we own an electric car and use an adapter without any issues, so this was unexpected.

The car was fine mechanically but did not meet our needs for highway travel. The i3 isn't suitable for touring, as it only has a practical range of 80-100 miles depending on terrain. We found ourselves having to gas up or power up (or both) nearly every day, sometimes twice a day, on our journeys to visit family in Santa Cruz and Sonoma County. BMW and the host will tell you it should get 120 miles but that's not going to occur if you are driving up and down hills, where this car is very underpowered. In addition, the 10-year-old battery design of this i3 requires over 45 minutes to get to 80% charge, and another 90 minutes to get to 100%. Few travelers want to sit around in charging stations for that length of time every day. The as tank only holds 2.1 gallons, and we used up half of that just driving five miles up over the Santa Cruz hills on Route 17. When I called the host to question that, his reply was that there was nothing wrong and I just had to go buy gas. So if you only plan to putter around the city, by all means you should consider renting the i3; it's small but responsive and fun to drive, and in good shape for a 10YO vehicle. But if you're intending to put any amount of serious miles on it, I'd reconsider.

i3 is a city car with combined range around 120.miles before charging or refuel

Host and location were ok. After driving about 50 miles, the car indicated low tire pressure. After adding air, this happened two more times. Eventually the PSI fell to 24 and wouldn’t keep any more air. I had to pay $90 to tow the car back to the location, at host’s request (instead of free tow to tire repair shop). Car was inoperable for last 24 hours of rental, and I returned it early.
