Frequently asked questions

What do I need to rent a car on Turo?

To book a car on Turo, you need to create a Turo account and have a valid driver’s license. In France, you must be at least 18 years old and have held your driver’s license for at least two years, and in some cases longer depending on the brand and model of the vehicle.

You must be 18 or older in the United States, 21 or older in Australia, and 23 or older in Canada. In the United Kingdom, you must be at least 21 and have held a UK or EU driver’s license for at least one year, or any other driver’s license for at least two years.

When booking your first trip, you will be asked to provide certain information, including details about your driver’s license. Turo may, at its sole discretion, verify the information provided. Any checks carried out by Turo do not relieve hosts of their responsibility to verify the documents submitted by their guests.

Do I need my own insurance?

No, you do not need to purchase personal insurance to rent on Turo in France. Only the protection plans offered by Turo cover a guest’s financial responsibility for damage to a host’s vehicle and related services. Liability coverage is provided through an insurance policy taken out by Turo with Baloise Assurances Luxembourg S.A (« Baloise »).

Do I need a French driver’s license to drive in France?

No, you do not necessarily need a French driver’s license to book a car in France. Driver’s licenses issued by the European Union (EU) are accepted. Holders of non-EU licenses that are not written in French must have an international driving permit or an official translation to drive in France.

Can other people drive the car I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (the person who booked the car) can add additional drivers at no extra cost. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do this for you. We encourage you to add extra drivers before your trip begins, although hosts may request that you add a driver while a trip is already in progress.

To speed up the process, ask your additional driver to create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the vehicle you’ve booked. You can add drivers through the “Trips” tab in the Turo app with no additional driver fees or extra charges.

What is Turo’s cancellation policy?

You can cancel and receive a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip begins, unless you chose a discounted, non-refundable trip option at booking. If you book less than 24 hours before the trip start time, you have one hour after booking to cancel at no charge. After this free cancellation window, cancellation fees will apply. In the rare event that a host cancels your trip, you’ll be notified immediately so you can book another car or receive assistance finding one. Your refund may be temporarily held to speed up rebooking, or the funds can be returned to your bank account, whichever you prefer.

What happens in case of an accident?

If there’s an emergency or an issue with the car, call roadside assistance, available 24/7. We’ll make sure you’re safe and then help you get back on the road.

Can I have the car delivered to me?

Yes, many hosts offer delivery to meeting points such as airports, train stations, hotels, or custom addresses. There are cars listed on Turo near hundreds of airports, and you can also choose to have your car delivered to and picked up from your hotel or holiday rental, saving you time and hassle. Some hosts offer delivery for free, while others set their own fee for this service.

How can I get discounts when renting a car?

Many Turo hosts offer reduced prices for weekly and monthly trips, so you’ll get the best deals and lowest possible rates by booking longer trips.

On your account page, make sure you’ve checked the box to receive email notifications, and enable push notifications for the Turo app in your phone settings. We’ll occasionally send you promo codes, discounts, and special offers on rental cars!

What is Turo’s cleaning and safety policy?

As part of the cleaning policy, hosts are required to thoroughly clean and disinfect their vehicles before each trip, so you can feel safe and comfortable behind the wheel. Turo hosts have access to training on enhanced cleaning practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.
