The inside of the windscreen was difficult to see through in the setting sun all afternoon/evening due to not being clean. The veiling glare created a "smoky" or hazy appearance that washed out contrast and reduced visibility through the surface with a smoky type of film. Reduced visibility like this is not good when driving.
