Raise the curtain in Omaha

Once a stop on the Lewis and Clark Trail, Omaha is now home to billionaire investors, authentic Midwest cuisine, and exciting hometown events.

If you stay a few days, you’ll get a feel for why people still flock to the Gateway of the West. Explore cobblestoned markets, a world-famous zoo, and the stunning Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, where the bustling downtown skyline gives way to the sweeping Missouri River.

Omaha favorites

See what’s happening in Omaha — wander through the historic old market or visit one of the best zoos in the world.

Henry Doorly Zoo

Ranked as one of the world’s top five zoos, this is a destination for animal lovers of all ages. Explore underground caves, an aquarium, and thousands of amazing species. Don’t miss the world’s largest indoor desert, housed in the world’s largest glazed geodesic dome.

Old Market Historic District

In the Old Market District, you can wander cobblestone city streets in search of quirky boutiques, gorgeous galleries, and historic charm. This is Omaha’s oldest and most happening neighborhood, so make a dinner reservation and enjoy the sights.

Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge

A pedestrian bridge may not sound very exciting, but the Bob Kerrey Bridge is actually one of Omaha’s most famous sites. Stand in two places at once as you cross the 3,000-foot bridge, which spans the mighty Missouri River and connects Nebraska and Iowa.

A slightly longer drive (an hour and a half) takes you to Indian Cave State Park, a great place for camping, hiking, or cycling on your family vacation. Of course, you won’t want to miss the sandstone cave after which the park is named.

Purple squiggle

Lincoln Highway

Rolling under vast open skies on the Lincoln Highway, which passes straight through Omaha, you’ll have the chance to soak in Nebraska’s beauty and history. Along the way, you can stop at pioneer sites, cowboy hangouts, and Pony Express trails.

Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway

Follow the path of Lewis and Clark as you wind along the Missouri River. Stretching from Fort Calhoun to South Sioux City, this 131-mile scenic byway takes you past lush wooded bluffs, bountiful croplands, and the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, a popular area for bird watching.

Loess Hills National Scenic Byway

Venture into Iowa to explore the fascinating, one-of-a-kind landscape known as the Loess Hills. Spanning more than 1080 miles, the Loess Hills were created by melting glaciers and are especially beautiful in the fall. But in any season, a drive through them is sure to delight.
