How do I get to Rouen?

By train: Rouen-Rive-Droite train station is well connected to other French cities, notably Paris. From Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris, the journey generally takes just over an hour. Regional train services (TER) and intercity trains also link Rouen to other towns in Normandy.
By car: Rouen is easily accessible by freeway. From Paris, for example, you can take the A13 freeway towards Caen/Rouen. It's a journey of around 80 miles.
By plane: Although Rouen has its own airport, the Aéroport de Rouen Vallée de Seine, it is mainly used for domestic and seasonal flights. If you are arriving from another country, the nearest airport with regular international flights is Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport or Orly Airport. From there, you can take a train or get a car to Rouen.
By bus: Several bus companies offer routes to Rouen from other major French and European cities.
Once in Rouen, the public transport network is efficient for getting around the city, but renting a car is a good option if you want to explore Normandy.

What to do in Rouen?

Rouen, also known as the "City of a Hundred Spires", is a city rich in history, architecture and culture.
Starting with Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral: a Gothic marvel famous for its façade, which inspired a series of paintings by Claude Monet. The lantern tower offers a panoramic view of the city. Pass by the Gros-Horloge, one of the city's landmarks. It's a 14th-century astronomical clock set in a belfry. The Place du Vieux Marché is famous as the place where Joan of Arc was burned alive. The Joan of Arc church on this square has an original shape reminiscent of an inverted pyre. The church of Saint-Ouen is another magnificent Gothic church to visit, with superb stained glass windows.
And don't miss the Tour Jeanne d'Arc: one of the last remaining parts of Philippe Auguste's medieval castle, where Joan of Arc was tried.
Looking for museums? Visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen. It houses an important collection of works, notably by Impressionist painters. If you're interested in ceramics and earthenware, the Musée de la Céramique is well worth a visit.
If you're more of a leisurely stroller, take a walk along the river Seine: The Seine winds its way through the city, offering lovely walks and views of the urban panorama. Pass along the Rue du Gros-Horloge, a pedestrian street lined with boutiques, restaurants and cafés. Enjoy Normandy specialties such as camembert, cider, Calvados and tarte normande. The town regularly offers themed guided tours and a variety of events, including festivals and markets. Ask at the Tourist Office.
These suggestions are just the beginning; Rouen is full of hidden treasures and stories to discover. Take the time to stroll its streets, immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere and let yourself be surprised by its charm.

Which rental car in Rouen?

Depending on the length of your stay: If you're in Rouen for a short stay and plan to stay mainly in the city, a city car would be ideal for its maneuverability. If you're planning to explore more of the region or make longer journeys, consider a comfortable sedan or SUV for added comfort on the road.
By budget: For those looking for an affordable option, small or economy cars like the Renault Clio or Peugeot 208 are good choices. If budget isn't an issue, opt for a luxury sedan or top-of-the-range SUV for the most elegant of journeys.
Depending on the nature of the trip: For business trips, an elegant sedan might be preferable for professional meetings. If you're traveling for pleasure, especially with the family, a minivan or SUV might be better suited for comfort and space. If you're planning a move, consider a rental van.
Depending on equipment: If you're unfamiliar with the region, you can get a car with an integrated navigation system. For the winter months, or if you plan to drive in potentially slippery conditions, go for a car with good traction or even a 4x4. If you're concerned about your carbon footprint, look for hybrid or electric vehicles. Many suppliers now offer these options.
Happy driving with Turo!
