Driving in Kingston is pretty straightforward. Keep it to the right side of the road, avoid tailgating (especially behind tractors), and don’t let those stunning lake views distract you for too long. Speed limits vary but are generally 50 km/h in urban areas and 80 km/h on rural roads. Winter driving? Make sure your rental car comes equipped — this is Ontario, after all.

If you’re rolling up in a premium luxury SUV, watch for height restrictions, and be mindful of tight spaces near Market Square.
No toll roads here — just good ol’ free Ontario highways. But if you’re venturing toward Toronto, keep some change or a transponder ready for the 407 ETR toll road. For most trips around Kingston, though, your rental car can roam toll-free.
