Disappointing First Experience with Serious Vehicle Safety Concerns

The car drove fine on the first day but unfortunately, we discovered a flat tyre the following morning. We had only driven on main roads so I suspect the flat tyre may have been related to wear and tear, particularly given what we later learned about the condition of the other tyres.

To make matters worse, the car didn't have a spare tyre. Had there been one, we could have simply changed it and continued with our plans. Instead, I had to find a tyre shop that stocked the same tyre model and arrange a replacement myself.

This all happened on the day of a close friend's wedding. What should have been a relaxing and enjoyable occasion turned into a stressful morning trying to sort out the car and we nearly missed the start of the wedding.

What concerned me most was receiving a call from the mechanic advising that all four tyres were legally unroadworthy. When this was raised with the host, he advised the mechanic that only the flat tyre should be replaced and that he would deal with the remaining tyres once the car was returned. Naturally, this made me feel extremely uncomfortable continuing to drive the vehicle, knowing there were potential safety risks.

To be fair, the host genuinely tried his best to assist throughout the situation. Thankfully, he was able to remotely lock and unlock the vehicle while Turo's roadside assistance arranged a tow truck. I appreciated his responsiveness and willingness to help, but unfortunately, the experience had already been significantly disrupted.

I booked through Turo for convenience but it ended up being the complete opposite. On top of the stress and time lost, I incurred additional expenses for Uber rides and tyre replacement costs.

I understand that flat tyres can happen unexpectedly but considering we had only driven on main roads and the mechanic subsequently identified all four tyres as unroadworthy, I do question whether the vehicle was adequately inspected and maintained before being made available for hire.

While I appreciate the host's efforts, vehicle safety should never be compromised especially when customers are trusting that the car they're hiring is safe and roadworthy.

Unfortunately, this was my first experience booking through Turo and will probably be my last. I hope Turo takes these concerns seriously and ensures vehicles meet appropriate safety standards before being rented out.
