Service has been brilliant. Good communication, price and choice of vehicles when booking.

They swapped the car before the booking because my booked car became unavailable and provided a ‘better’ vehicle.

Then whilst during the booking, the air con broke on the car (I did note previous reviews of this car stated issues with it) so I notified them and they quickly provided some alternative plans. Albeit, ‘lesser’ vehicles as that’s all they could offer. But regardless it’s been a seamless process.

The Q5 is still missing a passenger door handle and other than the AC, worked great.

UR Drive's response

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful review, Charlie! We appreciate your understanding and are glad our team could provide quick alternatives and keep the process seamless. Your feedback is valued, and we hope to host you again soon.

The car itself drove obviously good (as expected, it's a Q5). Disappointing was to notice, that the door handle was still damaged (as already reported by a previous guest) and not repaired.

Pickup in the evening, outside of opening hours, was terrible! An Uber drove us to the pickup location (a dark industrial area) and we had no idea what to do. There was no URDrive sign to be found anywhere, so at first we were not even sure that we were at the right location (and the Uber had already left).
We called the host and were informed that they just send us two 4-digit codes in the Turo App (one to enter the area and one to open up a key-box for the car keys). However, we had just arrived in Australia from Europe and had bad cellphone coverage, so it took quite a while to get into the Turo App, before we managed to get to the car... Biggest question here: Why did the host not send us this inportant information hours (or days) earlier?!? This would have saved us lots of troubles!!!

Approximately 2 weeks passed without any real issues (although the Center Information Display flashed sometimes and then we were unable to use the car navigation, but we were using Google Maps on another device anyway).

Then disaster struck: While driving the car on a regular road, the left front tire suddenly lost pressure without any prior warning. We immediately slowed down and brought the car safely to a stop. Upon inspection, the tire was found to be ripped on the inside of the rim. We contacted the rental company’s roadside
assistance right away. When attempting to install the spare tire, it was acknowledged by the roadside assistance technician that the spare was not usable: the tire was not properly mounted onto the wheel rim, which made it impossible to inflate or install safely. Because the spare tire was unusable, the car could not be driven and had to be towed. The HOST then apparently decided to have the vehicle towed all the way back to Perth (~300km), rather than to the closest nearby town (~15km) where a replacement tire could have been arranged more quickly and at significantly lower cost. This decision was made without ANY discussion with us, and as a result, we were left stranded without a car to continue our trip!

What we really do not understand is, why the host never contacted us to discuss the situation and how we could continue our trip. They simple decided to end it and tow the car, without discussing anything with us. Having the option to replace the tire in the closest town would have been a far more practical solution for us and a far more economical solution for all. There is currently a damage claim ongoing and we fear that we will be charged with quite high costs, and all because of decisions that were made without us being involved at all (and could even have been avoided).

Furthermore, the only alternative Turo could offer us, was to pick up a replacement vehicle in Perth - which would have required us to travel more than 6 hours by public transport (and only several days later since public transport is very limited where we were located at that time). That was simply not a viable option for us, so we were forced to arrange a rental car from another company to continue our trip (which was also quite a challenge and also cost us extra money...).

Missing door handle air-conditioning wouldn't engage poor communication

Car was ok. Had some troubles with Apple CarPlay disconnecting after a while otherwise good and efficient on fuel. Would’ve preferred to get the car at the airport rather than at a nearby rental office requiring a shuttle. Tiro messages and support were good and prompt.
