Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Perched on a bend of the Brisbane River, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world's oldest and largest koala sanctuary, about 20 minutes from the city centre. Cradle a koala, hand-feed kangaroos and wander through aviaries alive with native birdlife. With your own rental car, you can arrive before the crowds, then loop home through the leafy back streets of Fig Tree Pocket.

Springbrook National Park

About 90 minutes south, Springbrook National Park drops into ancient Gondwana rainforest thick with waterfalls, walking trails and the glow worm caves at Natural Bridge. It's a natural detour if you're already heading toward the Gold Coast, and the winding mountain roads through the hinterland are half the adventure. Public transport doesn't reach the park, so your own car is essential.

Mount Coot-tha Lookout

For the widest view of Brisbane, drive 15 minutes from the CBD up to Mount Coot-tha Lookout. On a clear day, the panorama stretches to Moreton Bay and the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Pick up a coffee at the summit cafe, then wind down past the Botanic Gardens. A favourite stop for locals exploring the outer suburbs and seaside towns beyond Eagle Farm.

I will break my car rental experience (November, 2025) into 3 parts: Turo, car provider and vehicle. Turo. First time to use this app. Overall, simple and intuitive to use. It is a good option when compared to the traditional car rental companies. It was really nice not having to wait at the service rental counter. Car provider. Once you finish with the Turo process, you finalize all the details with the car owner. Daniel was exceptional to work with. He was timely and thorough with his responses to all my inquiries. Our flight arrived earlier than scheduled. I contacted Daniel and he had the car immediately available for my use. He was honest and trustworthy. At the end of the trip, I identified what I thought was a new chip in the paint. He reported it was present before the rental and not an issue. There is comfort in knowing there was no hidden agenda. Vehicle, Toyota Corolla, 2015. Don't let the age or size of the car deter you. The car was clean, dependable and satisfied all of my needs for 2 people. Hawaii may be dramatic with its natural wonders, but it is stingy with the parking spaces and roads (think road to Hana and Haleakala Volcano). We were happy to be driving this car instead of the SUVs and Jeeps that populated the parking lots and narrow, twisting roads. Overall, I would recommend Turo and HIGHLY recommend Daniel and his Toyota Corolla for your car rental needs in Maui.

David was communicative, pickup and drop off was easy with clear instructions, car drove well, overall very satisfied with our experience. Great cost friendly alternative to bigger car rental companies with a lot more flexibility, but come with the right expectations (i.e. don't expect a squeaky clean car)

Ford Mustang 2024

Wow. Just wow. If you’re planning to rent a car while in Oahu, this Ford Mustang convertible is absolutely the way to do it. There’s nothing like dropping the top and cruising along the island coastlines with the Hawaiian sun and ocean views around you. It honestly became one of the highlights of our trip. The car itself was spotless, fun to drive, and perfect for exploring the island. But what really made the experience exceptional was Gabriel. From start to finish, he was incredibly responsive, professional, and accommodating. Pick-up and drop-off were seamless, and he went out of his way to make everything easy and stress-free for our family. If you’re considering renting a vehicle in Oahu, do yourself a favor and rent from Gabriel. You won’t regret it!

Top tips for renting a car in Brisbane

A few local pointers go a long way in a city that sprawls from river to coast. These tips cover road rules, parking, tolls and fuel, so your Brisbane car hire runs smoothly from the moment you pick up your keys.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Brisbane?

Speed limits in Queensland are measured in kilometres per hour, with residential streets defaulting to 50 km/h, through-roads typically sitting at 60 km/h, and the speed limits across Brisbane city dropping to 40 km/h in the CBD core. School zones operate during designated times, typically in the morning and afternoon on school days and handheld mobile phone use behind the wheel carries heavy fines. Speed and phone detection cameras operate around the clock.

The Gateway Motorway is one of Brisbane's busiest stretches, linking the northern and southern suburbs through the airport corridor. Peak traffic builds between 6:30 and 9:00 am heading into the city, then again from 3:30 to 6:30 pm heading out. The Pacific Motorway heading toward the Gold Coast and the Bruce Highway heading north also slow considerably during these windows. Major roads like Coronation Drive and Kingsford Smith Drive run heavy along the river during the commute.

Summer in Brisbane city brings subtropical downpours that can reduce visibility in minutes, particularly across open motorways and exposed bridges. Keep headlights on in the rain, leave extra space between rental vehicles and allow more time for braking. Once you clear the inner suburbs, conditions ease quickly, and the open stretches heading into the hinterland and coast reward a steady, relaxed pace.

What is parking like in Brisbane?

Council-run car parks at King George Square and Wickham Terrace sit right in the heart of the CBD, both open seven days and well signposted from surrounding streets. Beyond the city centre, South Bank's Cultural Centre car parks serve the gallery and museum precinct, and Wilson Parking operates garages across Fortitude Valley and the inner suburbs.

Street parking in the CBD is metered and capped at two hours on most blocks, so car parks are the better option for longer visits. Popular beach and trailhead parking outside the city fills quickly on weekends, so arriving early is always a smart move.

Are there toll roads in Brisbane?

Brisbane has seven tolled roads and tunnels, including the Gateway Motorway, AirportlinkM7, Clem7, Legacy Way, Go Between Bridge, Logan Motorway and the Toowoomba Bypass. All are electronically tolled with no cash booths, so confirm how tolls are handled for your car hire in Brisbane.

Are there petrol stations and EV chargers in Brisbane?

Petrol stations are spread generously across the city, with BP, Shell, Caltex and Ampol locations dotted along major roads like Ipswich Road, Sandgate Road and throughout the outer suburbs. Fuel is easy to find before a road trip south or a long drive north toward the Sunshine Coast, though prices do fluctuate.

If you're renting an EV or hybrid on Turo, Brisbane has a strong and growing network of chargers. King George Square Car Park offers EV charging bays in the CBD, Chargefox fast chargers sit at BP Hamilton on Kingsford Smith Drive, and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre has charging bays in its car park. Queensland's Electric Super Highway also links Brisbane to regional destinations with fast chargers at regular intervals, making it a solid city for renting electric.

Do I need to rent a car in Brisbane?

Brisbane's public transport covers the inner city well, but the best of South East Queensland sits well beyond the bus and train lines. Springbrook's rainforest trails, the beaches at Noosa, Moreton Island's sand dunes and the winding mountain roads of Mount Tamborine all need a car to reach. A rental car on Turo lets you pick up from Brisbane Airport or the terminal building in small cars for city driving, or something bigger for a family road trip, with no shuttle service or hidden fees slowing you down. Brisbane car hire on Turo means flexible timing and a vehicle matched to your plans, not someone else's.

Frequently asked questions about Brisbane car rental

What documents and paperwork do you need to rent a car on Turo?

To rent a car on Turo in Australia, you must create a Turo account, have a valid driver’s license, get approved to drive on Turo, and be 21 years old or older.

When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver’s license and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for all future road trips, day trips, and business trips!

Rental car pickup locations throughout Brisbane

Many Turo car rental vehicles are available for delivery to specific locations or popular areas in the town, like airports or hotels. Below are some popular pickup locations in Brisbane:

Brisbane Airport (BNE): Brisbane Airport car rental on Turo skips the queue at a traditional airport car rental counter. Arrange delivery near the domestic terminal, the international terminal or at approved spots along Airport Drive close to the terminal building. The Turo app covers all the details ahead of time, from meeting points to handoff instructions. Step outside, collect your keys and let the Gateway Motorway carry you straight into Brisbane city or out toward major roads heading north or south.

South Brisbane and the CBD: If your first stop is the Brisbane CBD, picking up closer to the action saves the drive in from the airport. Many Turo vehicles across inner Brisbane offer flexible meeting spots near key hubs, so you can step straight into the city's riverside energy and start exploring. Kick off a road trip south toward the Gold Coast or lock in a car for the working week.

Sunshine Coast and Northern Suburbs: Travellers heading straight to the Sunshine Coast can shave serious time off the drive by picking up from Brisbane's northern suburbs. Pickup locations are often near well-connected hubs along major transport corridors, putting the hinterland and coastline within easy reach from the moment you collect your keys. Airport car hire on Turo works the same way at Sydney Airport, Melbourne Airport and beyond, so there's no shuttle bus service or counter queue to slow you down.

What occasions can I rent a car for in Brisbane?

- Holiday car hire: South East Queensland is built for the open road, from the Gold Coast glitter strip to the quiet hinterland villages tucked behind the Sunshine Coast. Turo's popular car hire options let you browse available cars that match the trip, from convertibles for coastal cruising to SUVs packed for a family camping run. Small cars work brilliantly for quick city escapes, too.

- Long term car hire: Not every stay fits into a weekend window. Remote workers settling into Brisbane for a season, families between cars or locals waiting on a new purchase all need something reliable without rigid timelines. Turo's flexible booking stretches by the week or month, with hosts spread from the CBD to Eagle Farm, so your wheels stay sorted while the bigger picture falls into place.

- Business travel car hire: Conference at the convention centre, client meetings across town, dinner in Fortitude Valley. Business travel in Brisbane moves fast, and having your own car keeps the schedule tight. Browse Turo for something sharp and comfortable, confirm your pickup outside of opening hours if needed, and let the app handle the rest before your flight even touches down.

What kind of license do I need to rent a car on Turo?

You must have a valid, full, active, permanent licence to book a car in Australia. A valid licence is one that’s not expired, suspended, or revoked.

If you have a licence issued by a country outside of Australia, Turo requires you to have a valid permanent licence issued by your home country. If your home country's licence is not written in English, you must also have an International Driving Permit or an official English translation of your home country's licence.

Legal liability protection protects against damage to other people’s property and death or bodily injury (where the legal liability is not covered or capable of being covered by any statutory or compulsory scheme) as a result of an accident involving the vehicle. All protection is provided by Turo Travels Mutual.*

Yes there is — whether you want to rent a car for three days, three months, or even longer, you can on Turo. You’ll find discounted prices on bookings lasting 3+, 7+, or 30+ days, so you can get the best deals and lowest rates possible by booking longer trips.

Is there unlimited kilometre car rental on Turo?

Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you’ll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

Can you rent a car on your Ps on Turo in Australia?

On Turo, you can't rent a car on your Ps in Australia. To hire a car on Turo, you must have a valid full license - no provisional or conditional licenses are accepted.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Brisbane?

The cost of car rental in Brisbane can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in Brisbane, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

What rental car types are there in Brisbane?

Brisbane's mix of tight city streets, open motorways and winding hinterland roads calls for a car that fits the drive. Browse Turo for airport car hire or pick up across the city, with a streamlined booking process and vehicle types including, but not limited to:

- SUV rental: A Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-5 handles the school run, a weekend at the coast and the steep roads up to Mount Tamborine with equal ease.

- Luxury car rental: Roll up to Howard Smith Wharves or a south-side wedding in style. Luxury hire cars like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class or BMW 3 Series bring polish to every arrival.

- Sedan rental: A Toyota Camry or Hyundai i30 keeps things fuel-friendly and comfortable for daily commutes or a relaxed drive down to the Gold Coast.

- Compact car rental: Compact cars like the Mazda 3 or Kia Cerato slip through CBD traffic and into tight parking spots without missing a beat.

- 4WD rental: A Toyota LandCruiser or Ford Everest offers added confidence on unsealed roads on Moreton Island and through D'Aguilar National Park.

- People mover rental: Families loaded with baby seats, luggage and beach gear will love the space of a Kia Carnival or Toyota Granvia for long days between the Arrivals Hall and the coast.
