Before you set off, here are some tips for a smooth drive in and around Bristol.
Airport pickup near Bristol Airport is straightforward: after booking on Turo, you’ll collect your car from a designated nearby pickup location, with full details provided in the app.
Once your trip is confirmed, open the Turo app to view step-by-step instructions, including the exact meeting point, timing, and any access guidance. Pickup locations are typically situated close to Bristol Airport for convenience, allowing you to leave the arrivals area and head directly to your vehicle.
After collecting the keys and completing any quick checks outlined in the app, you’re ready to load up your luggage and begin your journey. The process is designed to help you get on the road efficiently, without unnecessary waiting or complicated procedures.
When your trip's done, drop off your hire car at the agreed location, or arrange a nearby alternative through the app. Don't forget to leave any parking tickets in the car and to send a quick message with the exact location of the parked car.
Bristol Airport is 8 miles (roughly a 20-25 minute drive) from the city centre, so it couldn't be simpler to head into the city, set off on a road trip across the South West, or venture elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
Follow road signs, stick to local speed limits (30 mph in towns, 70 mph on motorways), and be aware that the M5 and A370 can get busy during peak rush hours. You’ll also find bus lanes and some one-way streets in the city centre.
Most roads are smooth and scenic, though rural areas around Bristol and Somerset have narrow roads. Rain is common, and low summer sun can cause glare, so take it slow and enjoy a relaxed drive.
Parking in Bristol city centre can be limited, particularly during peak hours and weekends. There are several public car parks, on-street pay-and-display bays, and park-and-ride options available throughout the city.
If you’re driving into central areas like Cabot Circus, Clifton, or the Harbourside, it’s a good idea to check parking locations and tariffs in advance. Many car parks offer hourly and daily rates, and some allow advance booking online. Planning ahead can help make your driving experience in Bristol smoother and more convenient.
No tolls here, but some bridges around the Severn Estuary may charge small crossing fees. Check your route so you can cruise without any unwanted surprises.
Petrol stations line main routes like the A38 and M5, while electric car drivers can find chargers at supermarkets, retail areas, and car parks. Apps like Zap-Map help you locate and check availability in real time.
Public transport is convenient for getting around central Bristol and nearby neighbourhoods. However, if you’re planning to explore beyond the city — such as visiting Wells Cathedral, the Wye Valley, or the wider Somerset countryside — having a car gives you greater flexibility and control over your schedule.
Renting a car makes it easier to reach rural areas, scenic routes, and smaller towns that aren’t always well connected by train or bus, especially if you’re travelling with family, luggage, or on a tighter timetable.
Whatever your trip calls for, you'll find it on Turo. Zip through Bristol’s city streets in a nimble Fiat 500, stretch out in a Porsche Cayenne for countryside drives through Somerset, or enjoy a touch of luxury with a Tesla Model 3 for longer Cotswold trips. From electric cars to compact cars and luxury vehicles, find a wide selection of cars cared for and hosted by trusted locals.
The cost of car rental in Bristol can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in Bristol, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.
