Perth road rules and driving conditions

When hitting the roads in Perth, keep in mind that Australians drive on the left-hand side of the road. Observe speed limits diligently, as speeds can change between road types, so keep an eye out for the signposts with speed limits on the side of the roads.

Remember, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit is 0.05, so never drink and drive. Be cautious of wildlife on the roads, especially in rural areas, and ensure your vehicle is equipped for various driving conditions, including possible rain and flooding.

If you're travelling outside of Perth, remember that rural towns can be far apart, so make sure to stock up on petrol, snacks, and water before hitting the road.

Perth's rush hour and busiest roads

Perth's rush hour typically falls between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., with some areas experiencing congestion between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.

The busiest roads during peak times include the Kwinana Freeway, Mitchell Freeway, Tonkin Highway, Graham Farmer Freeway, Orrong Road, Welshpool Road East, Marmion Avenue, and West Coast Highway. Plan your journeys accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays.

Parking in Perth

While street parking can be limited in Perth's CBD, keep an eye out for "P" signs directing you to paid car parking lots. There are plenty of Wilsons Car Parks located across the city centre, from Bennett Street to The Quay (perfectly positioned to explore attractions including The Bell Power and Swan River foreshore.

You'll find ample street parking in most other areas around Perth, especially at the beautiful beaches. Perth Airport offers both short-term and long-term parking options to cater to your needs.
