While Slough itself doesn't have specific environmental zones, drivers should be aware of nearby restrictions. The London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is relatively close, so if you're planning trips into the capital, ensure your vehicle meets the required emissions standards. Some car parks offer discounted rates for low-emission vehicles, encouraging greener transport options. This approach aligns with the region's efforts to preserve its natural beauty and reduce pollution levels.
For exploring Slough and its surrounding areas, a versatile vehicle is ideal. A compact car or hatchback is perfect for navigating Slough's urban streets and finding parking in town. However, if you're planning to venture into the Berkshire countryside, consider an SUV for added comfort and capability on rural roads. Luxury cars are excellent for those wanting to travel in style, especially when visiting upscale areas like Windsor. For families or groups, a spacious vehicle like a minivan might be more suitable. Electric vehicles are gaining popularity in the area, with charging points becoming more readily available. Whatever your choice, ensure it suits both your travel plans and the varied terrain of Berkshire.
Finding parking in Slough's town centre requires a bit of planning. Utilise the town's multi-storey car parks, which offer secure and convenient options. The Queensmere Observatory and Hatfield car parks are centrally located and often have spaces available. On-street parking is limited and typically time-restricted, so be mindful of duration limits to avoid fines. Consider using park and ride facilities if you're staying for an extended period. Many car parks in Slough now offer cashless payment options, making it easier to manage your parking time. During busy periods, arrive early to secure a spot. Always check signage carefully for any restrictions or special conditions to ensure a hassle-free parking experience in Slough.

The M4 and M25 motorways near Slough offer several service areas with facilities for breaks. Plan to stop every two hours or so to stretch your legs and stay alert. Pack snacks and water for the journey, and ensure your car hire is in good condition before setting off. Consider the time of day you're travelling to avoid peak traffic periods. If you're heading towards the coast or other popular destinations, research potential congestion hotspots. Remember to factor in extra time for unexpected delays or scenic detours. Proper preparation will ensure a more enjoyable and safer long-distance drive from Slough.

When exploring further afield, you might come across other toll roads such as the M6 Toll near Birmingham. It's advisable to research your route in advance and consider using online tools to calculate potential charges.
