It was a great little car, a little small as far as the interior goes but is in great shape and well maintained. No issues on our trip and the owner was great with communication. Will definitely use again in the future!

Keep these tips in mind to find the perfect car and make the most of your time in Kalamazoo.
Driving in Kalamazoo follows Michigan's traffic laws, including the hands-free driving law, which prohibits holding or manually using a phone while driving. Speed limits vary, with most city streets set at 25–35 mph, while highways like I-94 and US-131 range from 55–70 mph. Roundabouts are common, especially near Western Michigan University and downtown, so be prepared to yield to traffic already inside.
If you're renting a car on Turo in Kalamazoo, consider road conditions based on the season. Winter driving can be hazardous, with snow and ice affecting roads from November through March. Bridges and overpasses freeze first, and I-94 — a major route between Chicago and Detroit — can be especially slick. Renting an AWD or 4WD SUV on Turo is a smart choice if you're visiting in winter, and look out for vehicle listings with snow tires.
In warmer months, construction zones are frequent, particularly on Westnedge Avenue, Stadium Drive, and the I-94 corridor, so checking real-time traffic updates before you set out can help you avoid delays.
Parking in downtown Kalamazoo is a mix of metered street parking, public garages, and private lots. Popular areas like Kalamazoo Mall, Bronson Park, and Bell's Brewery have metered spots, while larger garages like the Kalamazoo Mall Parking Ramp on Portage Street and the Arcadia Creek Parking Lot offer longer-term options.
If you're renting a car on Turo in Kalamazoo, overnight residential parking is mostly free, but from December through March, seasonal street parking bans are in effect for snow removal. Western Michigan University has several campus lots, though some require a permit. If you're heading to Waldo Stadium for a WMU football game, parking lots near Stadium Drive and West Michigan Avenue fill up fast, so arriving early or using nearby public lots is recommended.
No, there are no toll roads in Kalamazoo or anywhere in Michigan. All highways, including I-94, US-131, and M-43, are toll-free, so you can explore the city and surrounding areas without worrying about extra fees. If you're renting a car on Turo in Kalamazoo, you won't need a toll pass or transponder to get around town.
Kalamazoo has plenty of gas stations and EV charging stations, making it easy to keep your rental car fueled or charged. Major gas stations like Shell, BP, and Sunoco are conveniently located along West Main Street, South Sprinkle Road, and Gull Road. If you're driving an EV rental on Turo in Kalamazoo, you'll find over 170 public charging stations, including DC fast chargers at Borgess Health on Gull Road and downtown locations. Whether you're taking a road trip or just exploring the city, finding a convenient place to refuel or recharge is simple in Kalamazoo.
Renting a car on Turo in Kalamazoo is the best way to explore the city and beyond at your own pace. While downtown Kalamazoo is walkable, public transportation is limited, and rideshare availability can be inconsistent, especially outside the city center or during peak hours. If you're visiting Western Michigan University, heading to a concert at Wings Event Center, or checking out local favorites like the Kalamazoo Farmers Market, having your own car makes getting around much easier.
If you're planning a trip beyond the city, a rental car is essential. Destinations like Lake Michigan beaches in South Haven (40 minutes), Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids (50 minutes), and Warren Dunes State Park (1 hour) aren't easily accessible without a car. Renting a fuel-efficient sedan is perfect for city driving, while an SUV with AWD is a smart choice for Michigan's snowy winters. With short and long-term rentals available, Turo makes it easy to find the right car for any trip.
