Car rental near the Golden Gate Bridge puts one of the world's most photographed spans within an easy drive, and Turo makes it simple to book the right vehicle for the trip you're picturing. You choose the exact make and model, so the car waiting for you matches your plans rather than whatever's left on a lot.
The bridge sits at the northern tip of San Francisco, where fog rolls in fast and the wind picks up on the span. A comfortable, well-suited car helps you take it all in, whether you're circling to Vista Point for the classic photo or slipping down to the waterfront for a closer look.
From the same starting point, you can reach the Marin Headlands, Sausalito, the Presidio, and Muir Woods without doubling back, which makes a rental car the most flexible way to see the area. Rental cars on Turo range from efficient EVs to roomy SUVs, so you can match the car to your route and your group.
If you're building a broader itinerary, browse the wider San Francisco car rental marketplace to compare vehicles, prices, and pickup options across the city before you settle on the perfect one.

My experience with East Bay Rental Cars could not have been better. A friend and I decided to make a last-minute reservation for their M4 convertible for our trip to San Francisco. I noted that East Bay typically does not do delivery other than to local airports, but I reached out to ask if they would be able to deliver to our hotel in the city and they managed to make it work. Andrew brought us the car and was prompt, courteous and friendly. The car was in excellent condition and had desirable options such as a manual transmission, M Performance exhaust and carbon ceramic brakes. It sounded amazing! We had a blast driving up and down the coast and it was the highlight of our trip. Andrew and his team are incredible and I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience. I highly recommend renting from them.

Easy to do-great gas mileage. Car has lots of dings and dirt but for the price no issues. Parking is a bit challenging on way home as not a lot of free space. I wasn’t sure of permit but car left at 2pm and F permit required until 4. 2 hrs free. Maint light came on and host responsive.

Needed a car for a quick trip to Muir Woods and was a great last minute option. Amazing price and car! Would most definitely rent again
The car was lovely and cleaned and exactly what we needed for our trip. Vincent was lovely and very informative. Would definitely recommend renting off him. Very easy to communicate with. Also very easy to find the car and work out how to get the keys if ever in San Francisco again would definitely rent
Wouldn’t hesitate. Michael is the type of owner Porsches are designed for. Great experience all around. This ride made our 22nd wedding anniversary special. Thanks, Michael!

Very satisfied with this Turo rental. Even though the car is from an older model year, the vehicle is still in great condition, well-maintained, and feels very solid to drive. The owner was also very friendly and fast to respond, making the whole rental process smooth and easy. The rental price was very affordable for the quality of the car. I also got a bonus Tesla media play feature, which I really appreciated. Thank you so much!

Amazing trip and the perfect car for it! We cannot recommend more and will rent it next time!

Car drove smoothly, was v clean and fun to drive. Carlos was super nice, punctual for delivering car to and from my house, and flexible when I decided to end the trip a bit early. Would defs rent again. Thanks!

Easy to get to, and easy drop off in a wide open lot with street parking as well.

Amazing rental experience! The Tesla was a great car, and FSD was so cool to experience. Pickup and drop-off were both super easy, and the hosts were very nice and communicative throughout. Would definitely rent from them again!
I recently rented a car for a trip, and everything went smoothly from start to finish. The booking process was quick and easy, the vehicle was delivered in excellent condition—clean, full tank, and running perfectly. It performed great throughout the entire trip with no issues at all. The drop-off was just as hassle-free. Gary was friendly and professional, making the whole experience stress-free. I really appreciated how straightforward and reliable the service was. I would definitely rent from him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dependable car rental. Great value and excellent service! Thank you! 🚗

Had the best time driving up the coast to Sea Ranch! The perfect car for the perfect weekend💍
Pickup from Alfredo was easy and accessible!! The car was a highlight of our trip to SF and Big Sur- what a treat! We will definitely book again if it’s available in the area.
The car exceeded my expectations. Victor was quick to respond to my questions. I would rent from him again.

Just across the bridge, the Marin Headlands deliver the postcard views most visitors are chasing. Follow Conzelman Road up to Battery Spencer and Hawk Hill, where the whole span and the city skyline open up behind it. The narrow, curving roads reward an easy pace, so plan for plenty of stops and photos.
A short hop north of the bridge, Sausalito trades big-city bustle for a walkable waterfront lined with cafes, galleries, and bay views. It's an easy add-on to any Golden Gate outing, and having your own car means you can linger over lunch and leave whenever you like. When you want to start from town, a car rental in Sausalito keeps you close to the water from the first turn of the key.
On the San Francisco side, the Presidio and Crissy Field frame the bridge from below, with wide lawns, shoreline paths, and some of the best photo angles in the city. You can park, stretch your legs, and watch the span appear and disappear as the fog shifts. It's a relaxed, family-friendly stop that pairs well with a slow drive along the waterfront.

San Francisco International Airport is the closest major gateway, roughly 13 miles south of the bridge. Booking rental cars at SFO airport lets you land, collect your car, and head straight toward the coast without a shuttle detour. It's the easiest way to go from your gate to the Golden Gate.
If you're already in the city, picking up downtown puts you minutes from the waterfront and the bridge approach. It's a convenient base for exploring neighborhoods first and saving the Golden Gate for a fog-free window. Delivery options make it easy to start your trip near your hotel or a spot that works for your day.
Staying north of the bridge? Picking up in Marin keeps you close to the headlands, the redwoods, and the bay towns. Consider a car rental in Mill Valley as a quiet base near Muir Woods, or a car rental in San Rafael for easy access to the wider county and the roads back toward the coast.

Next time you fly, don’t wait in line and fill out forms — pick your car up at hundreds of popular airports.
Rather than hustling at the busy terminal curbside, take your time picking up the car at approved parking lots or garages. Check in, load up your luggage, and get comfortable with the car without a big rush.
Skip the rental car counter at hundreds of popular airports without waiting in line or filling out paperwork. Find and pick up the car with the app and hit the road in no time.
Cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip starts, unless you opt to receive a non-refundable trip discount when you book. Because life happens and it helps to be flexible when it does.

A little planning goes a long way here, where fog, wind, and small parking lots can shape your day. These quick tips help you make the most of your time around the bridge.
Read through before you go, and you'll spend less time circling and more time taking in the views.
Expect fog and gusty wind on the span, especially in the morning and evening, so keep your speed measured and your headlights on. The roads into Marin twist and climb quickly, which rewards patience over pace. Buckle up, follow posted limits, and give yourself room to enjoy the scenery safely.
Parking near the bridge is limited, so timing matters. The southeast visitor lot holds only about 37 spaces, costs $5 per hour with a three-hour maximum, and stays open from 7am to 9pm. A free four-hour lot sits on the northeast Vista Point side, though some bridge lots close on weekends and holidays during peak season. The Presidio and Crissy Field offer good alternatives when the closest lots fill up.
The Golden Gate Bridge toll is charged only southbound, heading into San Francisco, and it's all electronic with no toll booth to stop at. You can make a one-time payment online through Bay Area FasTrak within a window around your crossing. Check the details before your trip so the toll doesn't catch you by surprise.
Fuel and charging are easy to find across San Francisco, so topping up before you cross the bridge is simple. If you'd rather skip the pump entirely, an electric vehicle rental pairs well with the city's widely available charging. Plan a quick stop on your way out and you'll be set for the day.
Yes, a car is the most flexible way to see the bridge and everything around it. Public transit reaches parts of the waterfront, but the Marin Headlands, Muir Woods, and Sausalito are far easier with your own vehicle. With a rental car, you set the pace, chase the clear-sky windows, and string together stops that transit simply can't reach.
You'll need a valid driver's license and a Turo account in good standing. During booking, you may be asked to verify your identity, so keep your license handy. Once you're approved, you're ready to book and go.
A valid, government-issued driver's license is required to book a car on Turo. Visitors from outside the US can generally drive with a license from their home country, and some cases may call for an international driving permit. Check the requirements for your situation before your trip.
You can book most standard vehicles at 18 and older. Vehicles valued over $20,000 require you to be at least 21, Deluxe Class vehicles require 25, and Super Deluxe, Classic, and Specialty vehicles require 30. Drivers between 18 and 24 pay a young driver fee.
When you book, you can choose from protection plans offered during checkout. Each plan lays out what's included so you can pick the option that fits your trip. Review the details at booking to make your choice with confidence.
Yes, many cars on Turo offer lower daily rates for longer bookings, so weekly and monthly trips often cost less per day. Prices vary by vehicle and dates, so it pays to compare a few options. Book early for the widest selection and the best value.
Yes, longer stays are easy to arrange, and many travelers book by the week or month. Explore long-term car rental options to find a dependable vehicle for an extended trip. It's a simple way to keep wheels for as long as you need them.
Some cars on Turo come with generous or unlimited distance, which is ideal for road trips up the coast. Mileage allowances are set per vehicle, so check each listing before you book. Filtering for unlimited distance helps you find the right fit for a longer drive.
Yes, you can add extra drivers to your trip. Add them directly in the Turo app rather than arranging it at pickup, and each additional driver goes through the same quick approval. That keeps everyone covered and ready to share the wheel.
Prices depend on the vehicle, the dates, and how long you book, so a compact EV will cost less than a luxury SUV. Longer trips often bring lower daily rates, and comparing a few listings gives you a clear sense of the range. Check current prices for your dates to see real, bookable totals.
You'll find a wide range of vehicles to match your trip around the bridge:
SUV rental — space for families and gear.
Minivan rental — room for groups and luggage.
Convertible rental — open-top coastal drives.
Sports car rental — a spirited drive across the bridge.
Van rental — larger groups and cargo.
Electric vehicle rental — quiet, efficient city driving.
Yes, monthly bookings are a great fit for extended stays and often cost less per day than shorter trips. A monthly booking gives you a reliable vehicle for weeks at a time. It's an easy way to keep exploring the bay on your own schedule.
Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host's vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host's vehicle.
For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency.
