The Nissan Altima was great. Good mpg, clean, lots of power, great response time. The car needed to be picked up at an off site location called, economy car rental at 2367 India street. A proximity 2 1/2 miles from the airport. You will need to find a ride to their location. The price of taxi will be $30, however we took the free shuttle to the car rental center then walked 20 minutes the rest of the way. The team at this location did a great job, fast, friendly, polite, and after returning they able to offer a ride back to the airport. We would rent this Altima again, and I would recommend this vehicle.

First, I contemplated leaving a 4 star review for a few reasons. However, the prompt response to the issue with the original vehicle reserved, partly due to luck that someone happened to be onsite with the car, and the flexibility with returning the vehicle without requiring washing and vacuuming is deserving of some grace. The price for 5 day/4 night rental was fantastic, around $150 total. I certainly didn't expect a car in pristine shape for the cost. This car is a part of a Turo "rental company" fleet. It seems like a company that buys cheap, used cars to rent out. There are 12-15 cars parked behind a strip mall 8-10ish minutes from the airport in an area I was glad we were picking up and dropping off midday rather than the evening. The hybrid we originally reserved had stained seats and a lot of cosmetic wear. One tire looked like it was on a spare wheel and didn't have a lot of life left, honestly. A lot of the roads in San Diego aren't exactly in great shape, I was concerned about getting a flat. When we turned the car on to leave we immediately got check engine lights and a "pull over immediately" message. Fortunately, someone with the "rental company" was on site and qas able to quickly switched cars for us. It wasn't a hybrid, though. We didn't plan on a lot of driving, but originally opted for a hybrid to save money since we had two days of freeway driving. We definitely spent more on gas then originally planned. If there wasn't someone available onsite to help, it could have been a much longer ordeal which is a terrible way to start a vacation. Communication day of pick up felt slow with the owner. I didn't think to look back to the 2 month old message about how to find the car. I received a message from Turo saying we'd be sent details the day before the trip. I never got that confirmation text or measage the day before or day of pick up from the actual rental owner. When I first reached out to the rental company through the turo app to find the car at pick up time, I didn't get a response. I finally found a way to text someone about 20 minutes later. We did get a pretty quick response that way, but it's frustrating to be in a random parking lot messaging through an app and not get a response. The Honda interior is definitely cleaner than the hybrid we reserved, but the exterior, not so much. Its been side swiped and has a lot of sun damage. The TPMS light was on the whole time, but the actual tire pressure was fine. There was also a rattle and grinding noise when accelerating from a stop or on a hill, but it didn't cause an issue. The car drives fine for a 14-15 year old car, it's just a little noisy and you feel all the bumps on the road. I understand with the cheaper cost of renting through Turo amd choosing a 12-15 year old car, I'm not getting a newer car like I would with a standard rental company or paying more for a newer car. That said, with my last few Turo rentals, it feels a lot of these Turo "rental companies" aren't checking their cars or doing much more than standard maintenance as frequently as they should when they have over 150,000 miles on them. The confirmation message also suggested the cars are kept in great shape. These cars were not in great shape by any stretch of the imagination. No one wants to be on vacation and have their car break down or even be worried that the car they're driving is gonna get a flat or break down.

Here’s a polished 5-star review you could use: Writing Jennifer’s Tesla Model 3 was fantastic for our trip through Southern California. The car was clean, comfortable, and really fun to drive the entire trip. Jennifer was also incredibly responsive and easy to communicate with throughout the rental process, which made everything smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend both Jennifer and the Model 3 — we’d definitely rent again!
Amazing trip! The car was amazing and the whole rental process when smoothly and great!

“The car rental experience was great from start to finish. The car was very clean, comfortable, and drove perfectly. Pickup and drop-off were easy, and the communication was excellent the whole time. I would definitely rent from them again!”

Amazing host and an amazing SLK! The car was immaculate, drove beautifully, and made the trip extra special. Communication was excellent, and the entire rental process was smooth and hassle free. Highly recommended, would definitely book again.

This was my first time using Turo and after my experience with Carento I would book again. The communication between the company and customer was in a timely manner, the app was easy to use, the car was clean, and the cars safety features were up to date. All this made for an enjoyable experience. Thank you for giving me the freedom to get around at an affordable price. Tay

The entire process was great. Our host was always ready to help and answered our questions. The car rental was flawless. I'm looking forward to renting from Turo in the future.
The price is fair for the car. Not new but clean and works just fine. I will rent again when I come back.

He was truly a great host. I would definitely rent another car from him if I needed one again. The instructions for picking up and dropping off the vehicle were excellent. We had an issue with the first car, but he immediately swapped it for another one at the same price. I would certainly recommend him.

The opportunity to rent an EV and not have to pay. Gas. Prices is incredible. You do have to pay $20 to get the car out of parking. So factor that in but that pays in comparison to how much she would normally pay in gas for any other car. The car itself is easy and nice. And a great ride. Love it.
Car was great for the weekend and pickup and drop off was super simple and easy to follow. would highly recommend for a car rental
Very responsive and clean car! Was able to address any concerns I had or questions regarding my rent period.
Car was not in the best condition, but understandable given the price range. Owner might need to get a couple things checked with it (it flashed passenger restraint issue, ongoing back left sensor is out) and the steering wheel is DIYed. Still drove where we needed to go!

This 2023 Honda Civic was a good car to drive! Nice place to pick up the car if you choose his home pick up address. The car was clean and smelled nice. On the road it was sturdy and felt very reliable. Host is very responsive. And allowed me to drop off the car earlier than my drop off time. Would definitely rent again.

This is exactly what I wanted. I loved the convenience of taking the free airport shuttle to the parking lot to pick up the car. This was my first Turo car rental and Janice was very patient with all of my questions! The car drove well and got over 30 miles per gallon, mainly freeway driving. The price was very fair. The next time I'm in San Diego, if the car is available, I will definitely rent it from Janice again!
Rent a car and explore San Diego, CA
San Diego serves up beaches, tacos, craft beer, and sunshine like it invented the concept. With miles of coast, world-class attractions, and day trips in every direction, you’ll be grateful you grabbed a rental car before attempting to Uber your way across Southern California. Start with the showstoppers (the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and the Gaslamp Quarter), then keep exploring at your own pace.
Rent the perfect car
The San Diego Zoo is one of those places that’s somehow both iconic and genuinely delightful, even for people who swore they “don’t really do zoos.” It’s massive, beautifully laid out, and home to thousands of animals who seem to enjoy the sunshine just as much as the locals do. Parking is much easier when you arrive on your own terms, and having a rental vehicle makes early openings, late closings, and mid-day snack runs painless. It’s perfect for families or anyone who wants to wander without checking the time.
Balboa Park is where San Diego hides its artistic soul — museums, galleries, gardens, and architecture so pretty it practically begs for photos. With a rental car, you can hop between exhibits, grab a bite, then roll over to one of the scenic overlooks without waiting for a bus in the SoCal heat. It’s ideal for culture lovers and those who like their parks with a side of personality and shaded walking paths.
The Gaslamp Quarter is the city’s nightlife hub, buzzing with rooftop bars, historic buildings, theatres, and restaurants you’ll want to revisit. Having a car makes it easy to arrive early, explore the neighborhood, then slip out before the crowds thicken. It’s great for couples, foodies, and anyone who wants to experience San Diego after dark without playing rideshare roulette.

Perfect for quick coastal escapes, whether you’re chasing sunset views, craft breweries, or that perfect seafood spot a local whispered to you. Convertibles and sporty models thrive here. A rental car lets you squeeze more fun into a short trip.
If you’re in town for meetings, a rental car keeps your schedule running smoother than the surf at Mission Beach. Hybrids and comfortable sedans are great for commuting between downtown and nearby corporate areas. It’s a practical way to stay mobile without relying on rideshares.
Families heading to the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, or Mission Bay will love the space and storage of SUVs and crossovers. Extra room means everyone’s comfortable and the beach gear fits. A rental car keeps your days flexible and stress-free.

Pickup near or at Airports
Plan your routes with a little buffer, because SoCal traffic loves to test even the most chilled-out traveller. Morning and evening rush hours on the 5 are famously busy, so time your coastal drives wisely. And before you set off, skim your rental details to avoid surprises — that way, the only unexpected thing you’ll encounter is how fast you fall in love with this city.
San Diego sticks to California’s usual rules, with speed limits that change quickly between quiet neighborhoods and major freeways. Traffic around downtown and the interstates can build up during rush hour, especially when everyone seems to be heading to the beach at once. Drivers here are generally relaxed, thanks to the perma-sunshine, but coastal fog can roll in unexpectedly. Keep your headlights on and enjoy the moody ocean views.
Parking ranges from “surprisingly abundant” to “good luck, my friend,” depending on where you go. Downtown and the Gaslamp have reliable paid lots, though weekends fill fast. Balboa Park offers larger free lots that can be competitive during events, and beach areas require patience or creativity. Always check signs closely, since San Diego takes street-sweeping days very seriously.
San Diego has very limited toll roads, with the South Bay Expressway (SR-125) being the main one you’re likely to encounter. It uses a cashless system, so it’s worth checking payment options in advance if you plan to drive in the southern or inland parts of the county.
Fuel stations are everywhere, especially near major roads. EV drivers will find plenty of chargers around downtown, shopping centers, and coastal suburbs. Whether you’re in a Tesla or a cargo van, charging or filling up won’t slow you down.
You don’t have to rent a car, but having one makes the city feel a whole lot bigger in the best way. Everything is close… until it isn’t, and those gorgeous coastal drives are simply better behind the wheel. If you’re planning to explore more than one neighborhood, a car will make your trip much easier.
