The car is clean and capable to go around this mountainous area. It’s the best deal for fuel efficiency and perfect for 1-2 people. Bring your USB charger as it’s the only output available in the car. It has a CD player!!! So if you have your faves you haven’t listened in decades - here’s your chance on the road trip 😉. Thanks Mo. I’ll look for you next time in COS visit.

Good car overall- had a musty smell in the beginning but car fragrance helped, also small minor issues at pick up with vehicle: • Slight crack on the windshield (it was raining heavily that day) • Cracked hubcap • Right front bumper sticking out a little bit. Other than that host was communicative and helpful!

Top tips for renting a car in Colorado Springs

Renting a car in Colorado Springs is a great way to explore the city and the nearby mountain landscapes at your own pace. Here’s what to know about driving, parking, and fueling up while you’re in town.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Colorado Springs?

Driving in Colorado Springs is generally smooth and scenic, but there are a few important things to know before you hit the road. The city sits at a high elevation, so if you're not used to altitude, both your body and your car might need a little time to adjust - think slower acceleration and potentially more frequent stops for hydration or rest.

Winters can bring snowy conditions, especially in the nearby mountain areas, so if you're visiting between October and April, it’s a good idea to rent a car with all-wheel or four-wheel drive. The Colorado Traction Law sometimes requires it, particularly if you’re heading toward Pikes Peak or along routes like CO-67 or Highway 24. During peak commuting hours, traffic can build up on major routes like I-25 and Powers Boulevard, but outside of that, driving is fairly relaxed.

While public transportation in the city is limited, having a rental car gives you the freedom to explore natural wonders like Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and even day trips to Denver or ski towns. Navigation apps come in handy for avoiding congestion and checking weather-related road conditions, especially in winter.

What is parking like in Colorado Springs?

Parking in Colorado Springs is generally easy and affordable, especially compared to larger cities. In downtown and Old Colorado City, you’ll find metered street parking and public garages - most of which operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. After-hours and weekends? You’re in luck - parking is often free or reduced. You can use the ParkMobile App to pay at meters, and many municipal garages have capped daily rates. If you’re heading to the airport, daily parking is available there, too. Always double-check signage, but in general, parking won’t be a major headache here.

Are there toll roads in Colorado Springs?

Yes, if you're heading north out of Colorado Springs, you might come across a toll road. The South Gap Express Lanes stretch about 18 miles along I-25, from Monument to just south of Castle Rock.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Colorado Springs?

Absolutely. Whether you’re fueling up for a road trip or topping off your EV, Colorado Springs has you covered. For petrol drivers, you’ll find easy options like Safeway Fuel Station on North Circle Drive, Conoco on West Colorado Avenue, and Maverik on East Motor Way. If you're behind the wheel of an EV, plug into spots like the Tesla Supercharger on North Cascade Avenue, ChargePoint on South Nevada Avenue, or Electrify America on Venetucci Boulevard - charging while you grab a coffee? Done.

Do I need to rent a car in Colorado Springs?

You’ll almost definitely want to rent a car in Colorado Springs if you plan on seeing more than just the downtown strip. While areas like Downtown and Manitou Springs are walkable, most of the city’s best spots - like Garden of the Gods or Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - aren’t easily accessible by public transit. Mountain Metro buses exist, but they’re limited and not made for sightseeing. A rental car gives you the freedom to explore the region’s mountains, trails, and attractions on your own time - without relying on rideshares or rigid schedules.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

If you’re heading into the mountains or exploring rugged terrain, you can go for adventure-ready picks like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, or Subaru Outback - all perfect for Colorado’s scenic routes. You’ll also spot high-end and electric options like the BMW X7 or Tesla Model Y, giving you extra comfort and style for your road trip or weekend getaway.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site.
