At IAD, a fee applies to facilitate vehicle pickup and drop-off in permitted parking areas. If your host requires reimbursement for parking fees, this will be disclosed in the vehicle listing. Many hosts offer contactless check-in and checkout, if their car has remote access technology, allowing you to find the car, unlock it, and be on your way without meeting them in person. Message your host for specific instructions.

Washington Dulles Airport is located about 27 miles from downtown Washington, making it a straightforward 35-minute drive to your hotel or business meeting.
Thanks to the excellent road network, whether you're driving an electric luxury SUV or a midsize sport luxury sedan, you’ll be in the heart of the action before you know it. Traffic can vary depending on the time of day, but with a rental car, you can adjust your plans to avoid peak times.
Dulles drivers, take note! Stick to the right side of the road, and remember that speed limits are strictly enforced. Residential areas cap out at 25 mph, while highways like Route 28 and the Dulles Toll Road can hit 55–65 mph.
Keep your driver’s license handy — speed cameras are no joke here. Winter can bring icy roads, so if you're visiting during colder months, consider a full-size luxury SUV with all-wheel drive for added safety.
Parking in Dulles is refreshingly simple, whether you’re staying around the airport, hitting up downtown Washington or visiting nearby landmarks. The airport itself has ample spaces in its garages, while public lots in the city centre, like those around K Street NW or Connecticut Avenue NW, offer hourly and daily options.
Keep an eye out for signs, and remember that metered parking is free on Sundays — perfect for a leisurely day exploring the area in your rental car.
Yes, the Dulles Toll Road is a major thoroughfare connecting the airport to surrounding areas. Toll booths accept both cash and electronic payments, but using a pre-registered toll tag will save you time and hassle.
Filling up is a breeze with plenty of petrol stations near the airport and city centre. Check out Rhode Island Avenue NW in the city, or the Sunoco on 44950 Rudder Road if you need to top up before returning your rental at the airport.
For EV drivers, Washington is equipped with plenty of charging stations. Check out different parking garages, especially around Connecticut Avenue NW. You’ll definitely also find others scattered across the region.
Whether you’re driving an extended luxury SUV or a size elite electric sedan, topping up is as easy as pie.
While public transport options like the auto train or shuttle buses exist, a rental car is the best way to explore the area at your own pace.
From navigating winding country roads to parking conveniently at the airport, having a car ensures you don’t miss any of the region’s highlights. Plus, with Turo’s flexible booking options, you can find vehicles tailored to every budget and need.
