This trip was doomed from the start. Communication was almost entirely automated, with no real interaction from the host. The app asked me to submit a selfie with my ID, which I did, and then the host asked me to do it again. No problem. After that, I messaged the host multiple times to confirm that the child booster seats and ski rack—which I selected and paid for—would be installed. I received no response.
In fact, the host never responded to any text messages or Turo app messages throughout this experience. Any time we needed an answer, I had to call him directly, often multiple times, just to get a response. This happened repeatedly during the entire ordeal.
Picking up the car was relatively painless, aside from having to take the ParkDIA shuttle. If this is advertised as airport pickup, it should actually be at the airport.
When we finally got the car, it was in terrible condition. Dents and dings everywhere. The interior was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned—there was even a McDonald’s cup left in the center console.
While driving on I-70, the car began making a violent vibration, followed by a sound that resembled a blowout. I was able to safely pull onto the shoulder. The tire itself was intact, but the wheel had completely come off. The lug nuts were gone. This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have killed us.
What makes this even more unacceptable is that we were traveling with two young children.
We called the host, and once again there was a significant language barrier. He showed no concern, never apologized, and never offered to make things right. He simply told us to contact Turo roadside assistance. We demanded a replacement vehicle and immediate help. Turo roadside assistance kept us on hold for 15 minutes before help arrived. A CDOT truck rescued us, and the driver said he had never seen anything like this in his 20 years of service. Huge shoutout to CDOT.
CDOT took us to Georgetown, where we were staying—but we were now without a car. I pleaded with the host to bring us a replacement vehicle. He initially said he would, then changed the story and said his “mechanic” would fix the car instead.
I contacted Turo again. Once more, there was a large language barrier, and they were no help. They told me to pay for an Uber out of pocket and that they would reimburse me. Given everything that had already happened, I did not trust that assurance—especially since communication was so unclear.
Later that night, while walking back from dinner, we saw the vehicle parked in our condo’s parking lot. A man approached us after the host called and said the car was “all fixed.” The host had simply reattached the wheel. Again, there was no apology and no effort to make this right. The vehicle still did not feel safe, but we were desperate.
The host owns around 20 vehicles, yet instead of replacing the car, he chose to put our lives—and the lives of our two young children—at risk by returning an unsafe vehicle to us.
We will never rent from this host again. I strongly recommend others avoid this host entirely, especially families.
We’re very sorry to hear this was your experience and understand how stressful the situation must have been. Guest safety is always our top priority. When the issue was reported, the vehicle was immediately addressed and Turo roadside assistance was involved. We regret that this situation did not meet expectations and appreciate the feedback, which we take seriously as we continue to improve our service.

Pickup location is fine, I left my personal vehicle parked there for the duration of the trip. However I will never rent through this person ever again. I picked up the car at night, and was leaving the following morning. Car was as okay until I was driving on a dirt/gravel road and the front passenger tire pops. I check it, and realize the tire (as well as the driver side tire) is completely bald! Waited 6 hours for a tow to a tire shop that was closed when we got there. Booked a last minute hotel, and walked an hour to the tire shop the following morning because there weren’t any Uber/lyft drivers in this location. Spent $650 on a hotel stay, and FOUR brand new tires because the back ones actually needed replaced too! Had this happened to someone who didn’t have AAA and the $ to spend on an emergency like this, they actually would have been stranded. I was fully reimbursed, but this was such a bummer, it ruined two whole days of our camping trip. Rent from someone who actually cares about your safety. Look elsewhere!

I waited a long time after the designated pick up time for the owner to send me the code to the lockbox for the key. I tried messaging them several times and finally had to call them. I've booked with them before without any issues, so this must've been an anomaly
We sincerely apologize for the unexpected delay and communication hiccup, this is not our standard. Thank you for your patience and for reaching out. We’ve reviewed our processes to prevent this from recurring. Your trust means everything, and we’re committed to ensuring seamless process.
