After touching down at Tampa Airport, take the train from Sky Connect station in the Main Terminal Boarding Level to the Economy Parking Garage, where your car will be parked and waiting for you. To return your vehicle, head back to the Economy Parking Garage and use the Turo app to confirm the exact parking spot you've selected. Alternatively, your host might opt for an in-person delivery curbside at the Rental Car Center, which is an easy train ride from the Main Terminal using the Sky Connect Train.

Again, check the vehicle listing prior to booking so you're aware of any costs or fees that might be charged for your booking.

Exploring Tampa is best done on four wheels — preferably in style and comfort. Whether you're driving from Tampa International Airport to downtown Tampa or heading to Tampa Bay’s sun-soaked beaches, on Turo, you'll find a variety of rental car options to suit every traveler’s needs. Here are some top tips for renting a car in Tampa to make your journey as smooth as a Florida sunset.
Car rental at Tampa International Airport is seamless with Turo. Vehicle pickup happens at the Economy Parking Garage, which is easily accessible via the SkyConnect train from the Main Terminal. Check the Turo app for the vehicle’s exact location, then use the parking ticket left in the car to exit. Forget standing in line at a traditional airport rental car counter — you’ll be hitting the Tampa Bay roads in no time.
Drop-off is just as simple as pickup. Follow the airport signs for “Rental Car Center and Economy Parking Garage.” Enter the garage, pull a ticket, and park your rental vehicle in an approved spot. Communicate with your host via the Turo app to share the location, including the parking section and stall number. With no fuss and no rental car shuttle, you can easily wrap up your trip and hop on the Sky Connect train back to the terminal, ready to board your flight.
Tampa International Airport (TPA) is conveniently located about eight miles from downtown Tampa, making it a quick 15–20 minute drive. With your rental car, you can breeze past ground transportation lines and head straight to local gems like the Tampa Convention Center or the bustling downtown waterfront.
Driving in Tampa is generally easy, but be mindful of speed limits — usually 25–35 miles per hour (mph) in residential areas and up to 70 mph on highways. Florida’s BAC limit is 0.08%, so if you’re planning to toast at a Tampa Bay rooftop bar, consider arranging a designated driver.
Watch out for seasonal rain and potential flooding, particularly on low-lying roads. Seat belts are mandatory, and Florida law requires car seats for children under five.
Tampa's roads tend to be the most congested during commuter rush hours (from 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays).
Parking in Tampa is relatively straightforward. While hot spots like Tampa Beach or the Tampa Museum of Art can get crowded, airport property offers plenty of long-term parking options. Downtown garages like the Fort Brooke Garage or William F. Poe Garage are also affordable and convenient.
If you’re near the Tampa Convention Center, the Tampa Convention Center Parking Garage and Pam Iorio Garage are excellent choices. Look for ground transportation signs directing you to these public garages or available metered street parking.
Yes, Tampa has several toll roads, including the Selmon Expressway and Veterans Expressway. Most tolls operate cashless, so confirm with your host if your rental vehicle is equipped with a toll payment pass.
Gas stations are plentiful in Tampa, with many popular chains like Wawa, Shell, and RaceTrac located near the rental car center on George J Bean Inbound Parkway and along major highways like Dale Mabry Highway and Interstate 275.
If you’re driving an electric car, you’ll find EV charging stations at public garages such as the William F. Poe Garage (800 N Ashley Dr) and the Tampa Convention Center Parking Garage, as well as a Tesla Supercharger at WestShore Plaza. Tampa International Airport also hosts EV charging points in its parking facilities.
Public transportation in Tampa is limited, making a rental car essential for getting around. Whether you’re headed to Tampa Bay, the iconic Clearwater Beach, or exploring the bustling city streets, having your own vehicle ensures flexibility and freedom. Plus, renting a car allows you to venture beyond Tampa's city limits to nearby destinations such as St. Petersburg or Cape Coral.
On Turo, Tampa has it all: from cheap car rentals to luxury SUVs. Opt for a sporty new Ford Mustang, a reliable Toyota Camry, or an eco-friendly Tesla Model S. For families or larger groups, consider a minivan rental or passenger van rental. Find your dream car model and use Turo’s filters to pick your car make, year, or size: electric sedans, luxury SUVs, vans, and performance sports cars all await.
The cost of car rental in Tampa can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rentals in Tampa, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

Liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.
