Renting a Ford Transit van is a smart and dependable choice for all kinds of jobs. Few panel vans are as recognisable as the Transit, thanks to its frequent updates, modern features, and Ford’s trusted reputation for reliability. With its generous cargo space, the Transit is a great option for moving bulky items or making deliveries around town.
One of the standout qualities of the Transit is how effortless it is to drive. With handling that feels more like a car than a van, it’s a solid pick for house moves or businesses needing a van from time to time. The Transit range offers a variety of models to suit different needs, making it easy to find the right fit. Whether it’s for work or a weekend project, book a Ford Transit on Turo for your next rental.

With flexible rental options available—from compact Transit Connect vans to large panel vans and long-wheelbase (Ford Transit LWB) models—the Ford Transit range offers convenience at every level. A side-sliding door comes standard with most Transit van hires, while some models include dual side doors for even easier access. Rear barn doors typically open to 180°, with upgraded trims offering a 270° opening for improved loading flexibility.
If you need a van that can handle oversized loads, the Ford Transit is perfect. With a wide range of models, ages, and designs available, there’s a Transit to suit virtually any job. A standard panel van typically provides around 178 cm of internal height, while high-roof variants offer up to approximately 202 cm, depending on the specific layout and any internal panelling. This puts the Transit in direct competition with high-capacity vehicles like the Toyota Hilux and other Luton-style vans when it comes to storage space.
The plug-in hybrid Transit combines a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with a 13.6 kWh electric battery, making it ideal for city-based deliveries and local services. For zero-emissions driving, a fully electric E-Transit rental offers impressive range and rapid charging, reaching 80% in just 34 minutes. An E-Transit car hire is a practical, eco-friendly solution for medium-distance jobs across the country.
Whether you’re a multi-drop driver needing a large van for deliveries or simply looking for a practical, easy-to-drive van for personal use, the Ford Transit always delivers in both style and performance.

Modern Transit vans feature Ford's SYNC infotainment system with a handy touchscreen display. You can also expect up-to-date driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. Satnav is also common among newer Transit van rentals. Many Transit vans even support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can stay connected while on the move.
With a range of suspension setups for different payloads, the Transit delivers a smooth and stable ride across various road surfaces. The fully electric E-Transit is especially impressive, thanks to its independent rear suspension system, which enhances handling and ride quality even further. It makes long drives and frequent stops far less fatiguing for the driver. Whether you’re driving on city streets or rural roads, you can expect a composed and comfortable ride, even when the van is fully loaded.
Even though the Ford Transit is significantly larger than standard cars, it feels surprisingly nimble behind the wheel. While Luton-sized vans can sometimes be challenging to manoeuvre, the Transit’s responsive power steering makes driving feel intuitive and comfortable. Visibility is excellent, too, thanks to the elevated driving position and large mirrors, giving you greater confidence when navigating tight streets or reversing into loading bays.
Other popular models

Before you hit the road in your Ford Transit rental, take a moment to get comfortable and confident behind the wheel. Adjust your seating position for optimal visibility and comfort, remembering that the Transit has a higher driving position than most cars.
- Check your mirrors: Many Transit models don’t come with a rearview window, so make sure your wing mirrors are properly adjusted for a clear view of your surroundings.
- Widen your turns: Especially in long-wheelbase versions, you’ll need to take corners more broadly than you would in a standard car to avoid clipping curbs or obstacles.
- Plan your parking: When parking, leave extra space behind the van to fully open the rear barn doors or operate the tail lift if one is fitted. This is essential for easy loading and unloading.
The cost of Transit rental can vary depending on the model variant, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap Transit rental, look out for potential discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. Liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.
For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans in the US, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site.
When a trip is booked in the state of Washington, physical damage to the host’s vehicle is covered by insurance purchased by Turo, but the Turo insurance does not change the contractual responsibilities of hosts or guests with respect to physical damage to a host’s vehicle.
