Here are a few quick tips to help you enjoy a smooth, hassle-free car hire experience in Belfast.
Once you land, leave the baggage claim area and head directly to the confirmed pickup location. You’ll find any additional access details clearly outlined in the Turo app. No queues, no counters — just a straightforward start to your trip.
After booking, review the return location in the Turo app or select the same pickup spot if preferred. On your return date, leave the vehicle at the confirmed location and place the keys in the designated drop box.
It’s about a 30–35 minute drive into Belfast city centre, depending on traffic and where you pick up your car. Just enough time to settle in and hit play on your favourite playlist.
Speed limits are generally 30 mph in the city and 70 mph on motorways, but keep an eye on road signs, especially along the M1, M2, and A12 Westlink. The city centre has a few narrow one-way streets, particularly around the Cathedral Quarter, plus busy bus lanes during rush hours.
Heading out towards places like Belfast Lough, expect winding rural roads and tighter bends. And as always in Northern Ireland, sudden rain, winter frost, and post-shower sun glare can make surfaces slippy, so take your time and enjoy the drive.
Parking is generally easy, with multi-storeys, on-street spaces, and park-and-ride spots across the city. Popular areas like Victoria Square fill up fast, so aim to arrive a bit earlier for the best spaces.
There are no tolls here in Belfast. You’re free to explore Ulster and the rest of Northern Ireland without extra charges cropping up on your journey.
Find petrol stations along the M2, M1, and Shore Road, plus around most major retail areas. EV drivers are covered too, with chargers in car parks, supermarkets, and handy roadside spots.
You can get around central Belfast without a car, but having one makes it much easier to visit nearby attractions such as the Causeway Coast, Glenariff Forest, and surrounding countryside.
Choose from compact hatchbacks, luxury and executive vehicles, and sporty models (just to name a few). Try a Toyota Yaris for weaving through Belfast’s city streets, a Mitsubishi Outlander for day trips to Helen’s Bay, or a BMW 5 Series for smooth spins through Hillsborough. Add extras like child seats or GPS to create your perfect car hire experience.
The cost of car rental in Belfast can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in Belfast, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.
