I recently rented a car for a trip, and everything went smoothly from start to finish. The booking process was quick and easy, the vehicle was delivered in excellent condition—clean, full tank, and running perfectly. It performed great throughout the entire trip with no issues at all. The drop-off was just as hassle-free. Gary was friendly and professional, making the whole experience stress-free. I really appreciated how straightforward and reliable the service was. I would definitely rent from him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dependable car rental. Great value and excellent service! Thank you! 🚗

Very satisfied with this Turo rental. Even though the car is from an older model year, the vehicle is still in great condition, well-maintained, and feels very solid to drive. The owner was also very friendly and fast to respond, making the whole rental process smooth and easy. The rental price was very affordable for the quality of the car. I also got a bonus Tesla media play feature, which I really appreciated. Thank you so much!

I’ve rented from Gary on Turo three times now, and every experience has been outstanding. He consistently keeps his cars in immaculate condition spotlessly clean, fresh, and extremely well maintained. The vehicles are always high quality, exactly as described, and a pleasure to drive. Gary is also professional, responsive, and makes the entire rental process smooth and hassle-free. It’s rare to find a host who delivers such a consistently great experience every time. Highly recommend Gary to anyone looking for a reliable and top-notch Turo host. I’ll definitely be renting from him again!

We made reservation very last minute and the direction was clear. There's pretty much everything you need inside the car. It was our second time using FSD, and it worked great. Also, for charging, if you don't have enough time, the prepaid charging option is great. Compare to other owner, it's not bad at all. I would totally use the car again. Great and clean.

Tesla Model 3 2019

First time taking Turo, was a little sketched but it’s new technology. Better than standard car rental service. I’ve never driven a Tesla and it was fun and weird at the same time. Other than that, easy to use but electric cars aren’t for me as in owning. Since my Jaguar was in the shop, I wanted to see how Teslas are. Derek was communicative and great experience. Though I feel it was all an automotive system but I can’t prove that so other than that. Great experience! Would definitely do again

I recently rented a car from Konstantin and I couldn't be happier with the experience! From the initial inquiry to the drop-off, Konstantin's communication was excellent. He was always prompt in responding to my messages and clearly answered all my questions. The car itself was not only spotlessly clean, but also a really nice vehicle to drive. It made my trip so much more enjoyable. What really stood out, though, was Konstantin's flexibility. He was very accommodating to my schedule, which made the whole rental process incredibly smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend renting from Konstantin if you're looking for a reliable, convenient, and pleasant car rental experience. You won't be disappointed!

BMW 3 Series 2014

I recently rented a car from Eduardo, and overall, it was a great experience. Eduardo was incredibly kind and quick to respond to any questions I had, which made the rental process smooth and enjoyable. He provided comprehensive information about the car, ensuring I felt comfortable during my trip. As for the car itself, it was reliable and served me well throughout my journey. However, I did notice that the exterior was a bit dusty and the interior could have used a more thorough cleaning. Additionally, the engine had a slight clunkiness to it, but it didn’t detract significantly from my overall experience. In summary, I appreciated Eduardo's hospitality and the convenience of the rental. I would recommend him as a host and would consider renting from him again! Feel free

Top tips for renting a car in San Francisco

San Francisco is beautiful and busy, so it helps to plan your routes ahead—especially when navigating its steep hills. Traffic builds during peak times, especially near downtown and the Bay Bridge, so timing goes a long way. And don’t forget to double-check your rental details to keep your trip smooth from start to finish.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in San Francisco?

San Francisco follows California speed limits, though the hills can make things feel a bit more dramatic. Traffic is usually manageable outside of rush hour, but expect slowdowns near the Bay Bridge or when the fog decides to make things interesting. Drivers here are confident, direct, and very accustomed to steep inclines. Watch for cyclists, cable cars, and the occasional ambitious pedestrian.

What is parking like in San Francisco?

Parking ranges from surprisingly easy in outer neighbourhoods to “you will absolutely circle the block” in Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown. Union Square and downtown have garages that save time if you don’t feel like parallel-parking on a slope. Always read street signs carefully, because street-cleaning rules here are enforced with the intensity of a Michelin-star kitchen.

Are there toll roads in San Francisco?

San Francisco has tolls on several major bridges, including the Golden Gate Bridge. Most toll plazas are cashless, so check how payments work before you drive through. A little prep helps you avoid unexpected charges later.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in San Francisco?

Gas stations can be scarce right in the dense city center, but you’ll find plenty in the Mission District, SoMa, and the Sunset. EV drivers will have no trouble finding chargers around shopping centres, parking garages, and Bay Area suburbs. Whether you're driving a Tesla Model X or a GMC Hummer EV, charging or fueling up is simple.

Do I need to rent a car in San Francisco?

You can get around without a car, but renting one makes exploring the wider Bay Area far easier. Think wineries, coastal hikes, redwood forests, and short drives to scenic towns. If your plans stretch beyond a few city blocks, a car will save you time and leg power.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

How much does it cost to rent a car in San Francisco?

The cost of car rental in San Francisco can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in San Francisco, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

Whether you’re packing hiking boots, farmers’ market flowers, or a weekend’s worth of optimism, there’s a car on Turo ready to roll with you.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. Liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site. When a trip is booked in the state of Washington, physical damage to the host’s vehicle is covered by insurance purchased by Turo, but Turo’s insurance does not change the contractual responsibilities of hosts or guests with respect to physical damage to a host’s vehicle.
