Picking up at ONT

Purple squiggle

Pickup & return areas at ONT

When you touch down at Ontario International Airport, you've got two options for picking up your car rental: meeting your Turo host in person or completing a contactless pickup. If you're meeting in person, head to the Terminal 2 or Terminal 4 traffic island and collect the keys and vehicle in five minutes or less. Prefer to take your time at the baggage claim area? Opt for contactless pickup from one of ONT's Short or Long Term lots (P2, P3, P4, P5, or P6).

Communicate with your host

Before you fly, chat with your host on the Turo app to hash out all the details for collection and return. Confirm whether they plan to meet you in person or would prefer to leave the car in a secure spot for contactless pickup. You must only pick up the vehicle from one of the approved areas at Ontario International Airport. Be sure to make a plan for drop-off, too, so that when your time in California comes to a close, everything is good to go.

Parking & airport fees

Ontario Airport requires Turo to collect and remit a fee for delivering a car rental to airport grounds, which is included in the total cost of your booking. If you're collecting your rental car from the secure Short or Long Term parking lots, your host may require you to cover the costs of parking fees. But don't worry: this will be clearly disclosed on the vehicle listing so you're aware of these charges before you book.

Why rent a car at the airport on Turo?

" "

Contactless check-in and checkout

Many hosts offer contactless check-in and checkout, if their car has remote access technology, allowing you to find the car, unlock it, and be on your way without meeting them in person. Message your host for specific instructions.

" "

Rather than hustling at the busy terminal curbside, take your time picking up the rental car at approved parking lots or garages. Check in, load up your luggage, and get comfortable with the car without a big rush.

" "

Relax with support & damage protection

24/7 support and roadside assistance mean help is just a call away, plus you can choose from a range of protection plans.

Top tips for renting a car in Ontario

Whether you’re coasting down nature-lined roads or exploring narrow city streets, a rental car is a must-have in Ontario and surrounds. Here’s everything you need to know before you book your rental vehicle in Ontario on Turo, including hints for finding gas stations and electric vehicle chargers and important info about tolls, parking and more.

How does airport pickup work at Ontario International Airport?

Pickup at Ontario International Airport is available from a handful of easy-to-reach locations: the Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 traffic islands for in-person pickup, or one of the Long or Short Term parking lots (P2, P3, P4, P5, or P6) for contactless collection.

Before you jet into ONT, coordinate your pickup method and location by chatting to your host in the Turo app. Then, when you arrive, just locate your rental vehicle or host and grab the keys. If you've opted for contactless pickup, you'll need to confirm a secure drop box for the vehicle keys, and use the parking ticket left in the vehicle by your host to exit the lot.

How does drop-off work at Ontario International Airport?

When it's time to return your rental vehicle to Ontario International Airport (ONT), simply leave the car in one of the Short or Long Term lots (P2, P3, P4, P5, or P6) for your host to collect at their convenience. Enter the parking garage by taking a ticket, then leave it in the car so your host can safely exit. Make sure to park no more than four hours prior to the scheduled end time for your trip or no longer than allowed by the lot – whichever comes first – to avoid fees.

How far is Ontario International Airport from Downtown Ontario?

Ontario International Airport is a short and speedy eight-minute (3.6 mile) drive from downtown Ontario, CA. To get to the city center from the airport, take East Airport Drive to exit the airport grounds, then follow the road as it turns into East State Street until you reach your destination.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Ontario?

Ontario itself is an easy place to drive – the roads are wide and traffic is usually manageable, thanks to the area's suburban feel and population of just under 200,000 residents.

However, there are a few statewide driving quirks to keep in mind. For example, you must always keep three seconds of stopping space between you and the car in front of you, regardless of the speed limit – no tailgating allowed! In California, smoking in the car with passengers under the age of 21 is prohibited, and driving under the influence of alcohol (BAC over 0.08%) or drugs is illegal and comes with harsh penalties.

Speed limits in California start at 25 miles per hour (mph) in school zones, residential areas, and business districts. When you hit one of SoCal's beautiful, wide-open highways, the maximum speed limit is likely to creep to somewhere between 55 and 65 mph.

What is parking like in Ontario?

Parking in Ontario, California is generally an easy feat, whether you're doing business in the city center or visiting friends in the neighboring suburbs. In downtown Ontario, you'll find a mix of street parking, public parking lots, and lots connected to shopping malls like Ontario Mills. Most of these are free, but you may occasionally encounter a paid parking spot – don't stress, as these tend to cost just a few dollars for two hours. The same goes for the outskirts of the city, although the further you get away from Ontario proper, the more likely it is you won't have to pay a cent for your parking.

Are there toll roads in Ontario?

No, there are no toll roads in the city of Ontario, California. However, if you're landing at Ontario Airport and heading straight to a nearby town like San Bernardino or Riverside, you may encounter toll roads on your journey or when you arrive. For example, there's the San Bernardino Express Lanes on Interstate 10 (I-10), which speeds up the drive from the area to other hotspots like Los Angeles and Palm Springs or neighboring states like Arizona.

Where can I find gas stations and EV chargers in Ontario?

Although Ontario's not a bustling metropolis by any means, it's well-stocked with options to fill up your rental car with gas. You'll find stations as you leave the Ontario Airport close to major roads like the I-10 (AKA the San Bernardino Freeway) and State Route 60. When you reach downtown Ontario, you'll notice gas stations from providers like Shell, ARCO, and Mobil in busy areas, such as by the Ontario Convention Center and the Ontario Mills mall.

When it comes to juicing up your electric vehicle (EV) at a charging station, Ontario has a handful of accessible options to explore. Head to the area by the Ontario Convention Center and you'll find chargers from Shell, Tesla, and Blink readily available. There are also two chargers at Ontario Mills, and a few others dotted throughout Ontario, such as in the parking lot at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park. If you plan on taking your rental car for a long drive – for instance, along the Rim of the World Highway – be sure to charge the vehicle fully before leaving Ontario, as options may peter out quickly.

Do I need to rent a car in Ontario?

A rental car is a total essential when visiting Ontario, California. Not only is this area short on convenient public transit options, but it's also perfectly located for a driving vacation or to cruise to other cities by car, such as San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Anaheim. While navigating the area without a rental car is technically possible, it's undoubtedly tricky – you're much better off enjoying the freedom your own set of wheels will afford.
