Picking up at MIA

Pickup & return areas at Miami International Airport

Picking up your rental car at Miami International Airport (MIA) is as breezy as a day on South Beach when you rent on Turo. Pickups and returns happen at the Dolphin Garage, Flamingo Garage, or Economy Park & Ride — no curbside chaos here! Coordinate with your host via the Turo app to get the exact spot, then follow the airport signs to your destination. With a quick ticket left in the car, you'll be on your way to explore Miami Beach, Downtown Miami, or wherever your rental car Miami Airport adventure takes you.

Communicate with your host

Planning your pickup is smoother than Miami’s famed mojitos. Head to the Turo app for everything you need to know about where your rental car is parked in either the Dolphin Garage, Flamingo Garage or Economy Park & Ride. Clear communication ensures you’ll lock in your rental transaction quickly and avoid the typical rental counter shuffle. Renting on Turo means both the crowded rental counter and those long wait times become a thing of the past. No lines, no fuss, just grab the keys and go.

Parking & airport fees

Parking at Miami Airport is straightforward but comes with a few tropical twists. Your Turo host will leave the parking ticket in the car, but fees to exit garages like the Dolphin Garage or Flamingo Garage may apply. But don't worry: If you need to cover any parking fees, this will be clearly stated on the vehicle listing to ensure no surprises. While Turo collects required airport fees, it doesn’t control these costs, mark them up or keep any portion of these fees.

Top tips for renting a car in Miami

Navigating Miami’s sun-soaked streets is best done with the perfect set of wheels. From cruising the Art Deco Historic District to tackling the sprawling Miami Bay Area, having a reliable rental car from Miami Airport makes your adventures seamless. Here’s how to maximize your experience with the top car rental tips you need to know to avoid the bumps in the road.

How does airport pickup work at Miami International Airport?

With Turo, forget the hassle of waiting at the rental car counter. Pickups are streamlined at the Dolphin Garage, Flamingo Garage, or Economy Park & Ride. Simply check the Turo app for exact parking details, grab the ticket your host has left, and you’re ready to roll. Using the MIA Mover or walking via moving walkways, you can easily reach your designated pickup area from the airport terminal — an absolute breeze compared to traditional car rental companies.

How does drop-off work at Miami International Airport?

Returns are just as smooth when it comes to Miami Airport car rental on Turo. Head to the same Dolphin Garage, Flamingo Garage, or Economy Park & Ride where you picked up your car. Pull a ticket at the entrance, park in an open spot, and leave the parking ticket inside the vehicle for your host. Use the Turo app to confirm the location, and voila — you’re done! No need to queue at the rental car counter.

How far is Miami International Airport from Downtown Miami?

A mere eight miles separate Miami Intl Airport from Downtown Miami. Depending on traffic, your rental vehicle can zip you there in 15–20 minutes — just enough time to blast your favorite salsa playlist and soak in the skyline views.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Miami?

Miami drivers have a reputation for being enthusiastic. Stick to the right side of the road, and keep an eye out for pedestrians, bicycles, and even the odd scooter or two. Toll roads, like the Dolphin Expressway, are common, so having a SunPass or planning ahead with cash is smart. And if you’re cruising South Beach, expect plenty of traffic and stoplights.

Speed limits vary between 30–55 miles per hour (mph) in the city and highways, but always follow posted speed limit signs. Although we know it’s tempting to channel your inner Dom Toretto and imagine Miami as your own Fast & Furious playground, we recommend sticking to the speed limit — because nothing says 'family' like avoiding a speeding ticket!

Before you hit the Miami streets in your rental car, make sure you have a valid driver's license hand — it's your golden ticket to drive like a local (minus the beach traffic).

What is parking like in Miami?

Parking can be a challenge in popular hotspots like Miami Beach and Downtown Miami, but public garages and metered spaces help ease the crunch. For convenient long-term options, check out city-run garages like the Collins Avenue Municipal Garage (between 13th & 14th Street in South Beach) or the Lincoln Road Mall Parking Garage (just off Lincoln Road).

Downtown, the Miami Parking Authority Garage near 100 Chopin Plaza or the Courthouse Center Garage near 60 NW 1st St offer easy access to key attractions. Prices can vary, so watch for posted rates — especially during weekends and events.

Are there toll roads in Miami?

Yes, Miami loves its toll roads, especially on highways like the Dolphin Expressway and Turnpike. Keep an eye out for airport signs directing you through toll zones if you're looking to avoid toll roads during your time in Miami.

Where can I find gas stations and EV chargers in Miami?

For those visiting Miami, gas stations are plentiful along roads like NW 42nd Avenue (LeJeune Road) and near NW 72nd Avenue — look for popular chains such as Wawa, Shell, or Chevron.

If you’re driving an electric sedan or SUV, you’ll find EV charging stations at shopping hubs like Dolphin Mall, and local parking garages like the Collins Avenue Municipal Garage in Miami Beach. Public garages throughout Downtown, including certain Miami Parking Authority facilities, may also offer EV charging to keep your road trip eco-friendly.

Do I need to rent a car in Miami?

Absolutely! While public transit can get you around, the real gems like Fort Lauderdale and South Beach demand the freedom of a rental vehicle. Plus, who doesn’t want to cruise Ocean Drive in a convertible?

What rental car types can I find on Turo in Miami?

The options are endless when booking a rental car at Miami airport on Turo. From luxury SUVs to sports cars, on Turo, you'll find everything you need to hit the Miami streets in style.

Looking for something bold? Try a Bentley Continental GT or a Porsche Taycan. Want something a bit more classic? Check out the Mercedes Benz E-Class or the ever-reliable Toyota Camry. For eco-conscious drivers, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid and Tesla Model S are top picks.

Whether you're planning a laid-back cruise along Ocean Drive or heading to the Miami Convention Center, Miami Airport car rental on Turo ensures you'll find the perfect match for your vibe.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Miami?

The cost of car rental in Miami can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rentals in Miami, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

Turo accepts valid licenses (not expired, suspended, or revoked) that allow for full driving privileges; this includes driver’s licenses issued outside of the US. Learner’s permit/instruction permits are not accepted.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
