Honda Civic 2018

The car was amazing and had all sorts of great safety features! The host was absolutely amazing too very polite, friendly, and responsive. If you're looking for a great vehicle and an amazing host, definitely choose Dhanushka! The Honda Civic was also amazing on gas. I only had to stop for fuel 3 times during my 2,400 km trip, and it cost me under $200 in gas! This was my first experience with Turo, and honestly, it was better than any rental experience I've had with Enterprise or Hertz. Dhanushka made my trip so much smoother and really helped make the whole experience worthwhile. I’ll 100% be booking with Dhanushka again on my next trip, no questions asked!

Tesla Model 3 2021

Excellent Experience I had a great experience renting Victor’s 2021 Tesla Model 3. The car was in good condition, clean, comfortable, and worked perfectly for my week-long trip. Pickup at Ottawa Airport was very convenient (Level 2, Parking 2F), and Victor’s communication throughout the rental was excellent. Whenever I had a question or ran into an issue, he was quick to respond and very helpful. At one point, I had an issue with charging because of an unpaid balance at the charging station, but Victor helped me resolve it without any hassle. Overall, the car made my trip from in Ottawa and around the area much easier and more enjoyable. Returning the vehicle was also smooth, and I was happy to return it in good condition. I would definitely rent from Victor again. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The car was great! It drove well, was perfectly clean and fully fueled when we picked it up. Highly recommend. *One note : the cigarette lighter socket does not work so if you are taking a long trip and will need to charge your phone, bring a power bank or plan to charge it en route

Top tips for renting a car in Ottawa

Renting a car in Ottawa is far smoother when you know what to expect on the road. These Ottawa car rental tips bring together everything that makes driving in the capital easier, from seasonal quirks to smart ways to plan ahead during winter and busy weekends.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Ottawa?

Ottawa’s traffic rhythm shifts with the season, so staying alert to changing patterns pays off. Morning and afternoon peak hours can slow things down on routes like the Airport Parkway, especially on weekdays. Winter conditions usually settle in around December, and snow can reduce visibility or road grip, so leave extra space and follow posted speed limits closely. Clear signs around major corridors help guide your way through the city, even in poor weather.

As winter deepens into January, icy patches can linger through shaded areas and suburban streets. Salt and ploughing crews work quickly, but it helps to monitor road condition updates before you begin driving toward surrounding neighbourhoods or the Gatineau hills. If you’re visiting for the first time, expect varying terrain as you slip between downtown blocks, riverside roads, and parkway-style stretches where conditions can shift without much warning.

Ottawa’s road network is built for year-round travel, but storm surges or freeze thaw cycles can affect surfaces outside the core. Stay mindful of residential school zones, where reduced limits apply at specific times.

What is parking like in Ottawa?

Parking around central Ottawa is manageable once you know where the main garages sit. Popular areas near ByWard Market, the Rideau Centre, or Elgin Street fill quickly on weekends, but multi-level garages and public lots are spread through the city. If you're heading toward a museum or theatre, you’ll usually pay at on-site machines or through city-approved mobile options.

Look for clearly marked municipal facilities or private structures close to major attractions. Most are well-maintained, easy to navigate, and ideal when you want to leave the car and explore on foot for a few hours.

Are there toll roads in Ottawa?

Ottawa has no tolled roads, bridges or highways, so you can drive freely throughout the region without planning for extra costs.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Ottawa?

You’ll find petrol stations scattered along major arterials like Bank Street, Bronson Avenue and St. Laurent Boulevard, making refuelling easy before or after day trips. Ottawa is also steadily expanding its network of chargers, with Level 2 and fast-charging stations in city-run garages, shopping centres, and select public lots. Charging availability is reliable enough for most EV travellers, especially within central neighbourhoods.

Do I need to rent a car in Ottawa?

Exploring Ottawa is far more flexible with your own set of wheels. A rental car opens up breezy drives between downtown, riverside paths, the Rideau Canal, Gatineau Park and historic districts across the river. With Turo, you can choose exactly what suits your plans, match your timing to your schedule, and venture into scenic pockets of the capital that public transit doesn’t always reach.
