Surfers Paradise

Surfers is practically synonymous with the Gold Coast and is among the city’s most iconic spots. Wander down Cavill Avenue and enjoy one of the strip’s lively bars and eateries, take in the ocean views from the towering Q1 building, or swim, surf, sunbathe, and stroll along famous Surfers Paradise Beach. Don't miss the chance to take a hot air balloon ride for a unique perspective, explore the vibrant beachfront night markets, embark on an amphibious bus tour (known as the Aquaduck), or even go scuba diving to uncover the fascinating marine life beneath the waves.

Burleigh Heads

Located between Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads is one of the hippest spots on the Gold Coast. The food and drink scene is very cool, and surfers are drawn to the area for the epic breaks. If nature’s more your thing, explore the beautiful Burleigh Head National Park. Hire a 4WD or SUV and head for Burleigh Heads, perfect for those looking to enjoy bike riding. Plus, try your hand at indoor rock climbing at Paramount Adventures, or explore local craft beer breweries like Burleigh Brewing, Black Hops, Aardvark, and Arrow. For a unique experience, snorkelling enthusiasts can dive into the underwater wonders off the coast.

World-famous theme parks

If you’ve got kids in tow, you’ll definitely want to tour the city’s many theme parks. Warner Bros. Movie World, Dreamworld, Sea World, and Wet’n’Wild are all within close proximity of the city centre, so you can easily get to each of them via a short road trip. Make sure to add a baby seat to your Turo booking if you're travelling with little ones and opt for a 7-seater or people mover to keep the family together. If golf is your passion, you'll find top-notch golf courses here to tee off your day. Then, satisfy your taste buds with a visit to Deep South Fried Chicken near Movie World.

Gold Coast Road Rules

Before you hit the road, it's important to familiarise yourself with local road rules, like driving on the left side of the road and adhering to speed limits. Keep an eye out for the speed limit signposts along the roads, and be aware that these can change depending on area and road type.

It's also important to remember that the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit is 0.5 in the Gold Coast, as well as the rest of Australia.

Plus, it's important to watch out for animals on rural roads when driving in the Gold Coast and beyond.

Airport advice: Navigating in and around Gold Coast Airport

After landing at Gold Coast Airport, save time by arranging for your hire car to be delivered at or near the airport.

There are plenty of cars available on Turo at locations near the Gold Coast airport. After arriving at the Airport, skip the rental counter and have your car delivered for pick-up and drop-off at your Gold Coast hotel or the address of your holiday rental to save time and hassle.

Getting from Gold Coast airport to Surfers Paradise

The quickest way to get from Gold Coast Airport to the heart of the Gold Coast — world-famous Surfers Paradise — is to drive. After you’ve picked up your hire car, it’s just 50 minutes to Surfers Paradise along the beautiful coastline.

Public transport is another option, but it does take longer and requires multiple modes of transport. From Gold Coast Airport, you can get a bus to the suburb of Broadbeach before hopping on a tram. The tram will take you to Surfers Paradise and to other destinations on the Gold Coast. The total travel time from Gold Coast Airport to Surfers Paradise is about one hour.
