My wife and I had rented this specific vehicle (Land Rover Discovery Sport) from Vinaro Car Hire for the final stop on our honeymoon in the U.K. Everything was great until the car had a Land Rover dealer code-specific gearbox breakdown, and the car wouldn't drive.
The communication with Vinaro at all times during the breakdown to me felt as if he was just defending and covering his own skin, and insisted to us that the vehicle's issues, any potential help or excusing us from baby-sitting the vehicle for 3.5 hours was "between us and Turo....[Vinaro and his company] are not involved." This led us on a wild goose chase of being left on hold with third party tow companies, and eventually Turo's help desk, who did confirm what we thought - that at any point, Vinaro had the power to permit us to securely lock up the vehicle, attach the key box given to us with the key securely inside, and get on with our evening. We were staying an hour away from the breakdown in London.
Vinaro told me this issue had never happened to him before, and I definitely believe him. He maintained contact with me for the duration, which I appreciated, but the arms-length attitude of it all did not leave me feeling like anything more than a reservation # on the slate of his company's rental schedule. Our ordeal in the Costco parking lot costed me $75 and our entire Friday night.
As a business owner myself, if I feel someone is unhappy with an experience, I want to do my best to ensure they walk away feeling okay about everything. It really wouldn't have taken much for me or my wife, but the best that was offered by Vinaro was "what Turo can offer you for reimbursement of your Uber" (the long drawn out reimbursement request process) or hoping that "next time" his vehicles can offer a better experience. There not going to be a next time with Vinaro, and my hope is when the next customer's breakdown happens, he steps up to the plate and takes more responsibility.

A gearbox fault warning appeared after your trip was supposed to end. This was the first time this particular issue had occurred with the vehicle.
I made decisions based on what I believed was the correct process at the time. I am not comfortable with allowing you to abandon the vehicle as you are responsible for the vehicle while it’s on hire.
