Our rental with Viet's vehicle was a 5/5 going into the final day of the trip, but an incident and its aftermath is why I am leaving such a bad review.

On the final day of our rental, my family and I took the car to Stanley Park. After walking around in nature, we came back to the parked vehicle not starting. The dashboard was flickering, we heard clicking when attempting to start it and warning messages appeared, including “Check Engine” and “Reduced Engine Power.”

My family was stranded for nearly 2 hours. We were only able to get the vehicle started after a kind stranger helped us jump start the car with their cables.

We contacted Viet and explained what had happened. Based on his response, it appeared that he was already familiar with this type of issue. He told us to keep driving the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes and said that the dashboard warnings would eventually go away. He said if the car died anywhere near Richmond, he could bring a jump starter to help. That last statement was not helpful as we were stuck 40 minutes away.

The vehicle issue caused a significant disruption to my family's plans. My sister had to pay for a $60 Uber to the airport as we were unable to drive her in-time for her flight. My mother had to urinate in a bush as the nearest public washroom was 2km away and was unable to walk that distance. Despite the incident, my family tried our best to enjoy the final moments of our trip.

The slap in the face was after dropping off the vehicle, Viet slapped us with an invoice for "insufficient fuel" despite our family refueling the car. The picture he sent to justify the charge was a minuscule difference at best. As mentioned earlier, our family was so worried the car would break down again so we followed his instructions to keep the engine up and running.

This isn't a review to slander Viet and his vehicle, it's a factual re-telling of how his negligence ruined our family's otherwise wonderful trip.

Turo seems to agree with me. At the writing of this review, they have issued a refund for the last day's disturbance and are currently reviewing my dispute on the fuel invoice.

For future renters, beware.

The car was in very good condition. I love the features in the car especially the lane assist. Memory seating is very good as I can customize it and with a push of a button it goes to the set up I made. Vehicle Pick up was a breeze. A very good experience and my family loves it. I love this car 🙌🏽

The Lexus RX was a great vehicle overall and handled the BC mountain roads and curvy highways very well. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and drove nicely, and we enjoyed having it for our family trip.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the experience at the end of the trip. I refuelled the vehicle before returning it and also took the extra time to wash the car, even though I had my wife and kids waiting at the airport. After returning the vehicle, I was charged for additional fuel and a convenience fee because the tank was not completely full. I understand the expectation to return the vehicle at the required fuel level, so I paid the charge, but I felt a little disappointed given the extra effort I had already made to take care of the vehicle.

Overall, the rental was good and the RX itself was an excellent vehicle for our Vancouver trip. I would just recommend making the fuel-return expectations very clear before the end of the trip.
