A rental car on Turo opens up more of Park City than just the slopes. From knowing the road conditions to making parking reservations in advance, here’s everything you need to know to hit the road like a local.
Winter transforms Park City’s roads into a mix of packed ice and slush, making all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive essential for safe travel. Some areas, especially Guardsman Pass, are closed entirely due to winter conditions, while Parley’s Canyon often requires chains or snow tires. Before heading out, plan your route in advance – check Utah’s road conditions and travel alerts on UDOT to avoid last-minute surprises.
In town, speed limits are lower to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic, and during events like Sundance Film Festival, navigating downtown can take longer than expected. If you’re renting a larger car size or van, be mindful that some streets, especially around Historic Main Street, are narrow and may have restricted parking.
Free parking is available, but many lots now require you to reserve in advance, especially at ski resorts like Deer Valley. If you're staying near the slopes, check whether your accommodation includes parking. Some hotels charge extra, and availability can be limited during peak season.
Heading downtown? Parking garages, like China Bridge, offer hourly and daily rates, while some street parking areas operate on a pay-by-app system. Arrive early to secure your spot.
Utah has no toll roads, so you won’t need to pay extra for highway access. However, scenic routes like Mirror Lake Highway may require seasonal passes for entry.
Gas stations are easy to find along Park Avenue, Kearns Boulevard, and Highway 224, with average prices fluctuating based on the season. If you’re driving an economy or hybrid vehicle, you’ll find plenty of affordable refueling options near the city center.
For EV drivers, Park City offers Level 2 chargers at China Bridge, Park City Library, and several resorts. Tesla Superchargers are available in Kimball Junction and Salt Lake City. If you’re staying at a hotel or rental property, contact the host in advance to check on charging access.
If you plan to stick to ski resorts and Main Street, you can rely on shuttles and public transport. But if you're heading to Wasatch Mountain State Park, Midway’s Homestead Crater, or taking a scenic drive through Heber Valley, booking a rental car on Turo puts you in control of the journey. Plan your itinerary, find car rental models to suit your needs, and enjoy the freedom to explore beyond the usual tourist routes with your own car in Park City.
